"HELP ME!!! SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!"
Those were the first words that struck the 18-year old plumber, having been just so near to the skyscraper that the sound reached him. Mario swung his head up, searching for the source of the distress wail, and smocked his thin, poofed mustache as he spotted a red-dressed damsel in the massive paws of a giant ape who with uproaring determination scaled the sides of the constuction wall.
Workers and contracters fled, frantically screaming for escape and some simply being shaken off the structure by the force of the ape's climbing. The damsel's light blue, maybe even lighter than his, eyes locked with the blue-shirted plumber, and an unexplainable voice of Destiny whispered reason into his ear.
He dropped his toolbox and buzzsawed through the crowds of schmoes and colleagues to the freight elevator. It sizzled and sparked due to damage within the infrastructure, although somehow it fulfilled it's purpose with a loud shift and soon scraped the barriers as it rose through the construction site.
The elevator ceased movement after what had to have been sixty floors, and Mario lunged outward as another clank alarmed him. The entire lift itself then procceeded to drop, slowly before an unknown factor cracked and surrendered the elevator. He matted his ears as metal cut around the interior plating and splattered into the earth. He was all alone now, he realized staring at the view from the exposed open corridor, with a rampaging monkey and a woman beckoning for her knight in shining armor ...
He glanced down dissapointedly at his muddy plumber wear, shrugged, and dashed upward along the scalene platforms as a two-dimensional feeling begane to calm him. The simple red platforms hummed as his footsteps pounded them, and the second the humming metal stopped, he shot his eyes upwards to see the missing section of floor just inches before him.
He literally felt his heart POW! into his ribcage as his instincts kicked in, propelling his legs like springs. His hands searched frantically for solid matter, he prayed unintelligble words before finally, five fingers simultaneously clamped down upon a diamond-shaped opening in a leveled girder. Sweat weighing him down, he pounced up and landed with the support of an arm, before collapsing and gasping at the potentially life-threatening stunt. He was now on floor sixty-three, only six more floors before he would reach the roof.
"The ape has nowhere to flee to now, less risk a lethal fall to the street..." the thought made him force a grimming smile. He had to rescue her before...he didn't even want to think about it. Just make it up to the top floor and...
ROGWHHH!!!!!
Mario shook and utterly plopped onto his back as the ferocious simian's roar revrebrated down the structure, causing even more girders to fall. A brown, curved figure leapt from the outside and scurried up along the girder grids, it's prisoner's terrified scream growing louder and louder. Mario cursed the lazyness of his colleagues, watching as the interior fall apart like wet bricks.
The top section of the building was so recent, so unfinished and unstable.
Not suited for buisness or penthouse cats. Standing wobbedly, he toed over to the edge of the building and glanced at the scores of people who now inhabited the construction field, against the wishes of the police and SWAT teams who became too occupied with restraining bystanders and reporters to even attempt a rescue effort.
Now, he realized solemnly with a hint of apathy in his thoughts, he was all alone...
All alone in a large room, with Death sitting on the other side in the corner, raising it's cold, wrapped finger and waving him over with a silent hiss...
