The girl stares blankly at the mirror.

Cold tears spill over from eyes of stone;

With them all trust and love drain away.

Stripped of her life, she cries all alone.

She foolishly put her faith in three:

One, the lost love that really mattered;

Two, the only one she told her dreams;

Three, the self confidence left shattered.

Cruelly cast off without caution or care.

She backs away, slams all doors to her mind.

Through her shell, still stabs smarting, stinging

Pain - it's all too much, it leaves her blind.

The power of numbness overcomes;

All pain vanished, forever away.

People go past, their eyes never look;

Unseen she sinks, further in decay.

Pop, crack, pop, the bubble is broken,

Pierced by the person she least expects.

The lost love comes back, lights up the dark,

And brings with him, a new found respect.

Joyfulness returns, lifelessness fades.

Black to white, night to day, dark to light.

Everything changes, flick of a switch,

Nothing's permanent, nor water tight.

Bliss comes with sadness, never apart.

To change this would leave the world unbuilt.

Time goes on; we grow, wiser, stronger.

But memories and echoes never wilt.

Our futures are constantly altered.

Every choice we make, changes, recasts.

As we learn the crucial truth of life:

Every moment is shaped by our past
