Like Grey and Brown
There they sat in absolute silence. The moon was round and beautiful, casting a glimmering shadow on the lake where the giant squid lives. The stars were bright and countless, covering the vast skies.
She spotted his favorite constellation. She lifted her hand and traced the intricate pattern with her fingers. It was hard to spot the constellation, but not for her. After all, it was his constellation.
"What are you doing?"
"Nothing. Nothing important."
She rested her head on his shoulder. She sighed. She wished this would last forever."
"Granger, do you dance?"
"I suppose so."
He stood up and dusted invisible dust on his lap. He cleared his voice and reached for her waist.
"What are you doing?"
"Let's not ruin the moment. Do you want to dance?"
"But there is no music. How are we supposed to dance?"
"Do you or do you not want to dance with this incredibly handsome guy?"
"You don't leave me much of a choice, oh great and incredibly handsome one."
They started dancing slowly under the moonlight.
"So you finally admitted that I was incredibly handsome."
"I never said you weren't."
"You don't fail to amuse me, Granger."
She snorted.
After a great deal of silence, she rested her chin on his shoulder, closed her eyes and held him closer.
"I wish this would last forever."
"Me, too."
"This could be the last moment we'll spend…together."
He sighed and nodded his head.
A stray tear fell on her cheek.
There they danced silently under the moonlight, their heartbeats racing, their souls calm and sad. They were one unlikely couple. One cold, the other warm. One happy, the other sad. One knows how to be cared for, the other one knows how to be hurt deeply. They are the complete opposites. But they make each other whole.
Like grey and brown.
Like love and lost.
