A few months after his final break up with Kurt, Blaine was willing to say that he was ready to make the first tentative steps back into the dating pool. That was how he wound up going out for drinks and dancing with Sam, but he hadn't counted on the fact that he was still in the post-breakup sad, drunk phase instead of his usual happy, slightly horny drunk self.
Fortunately, Sam managed to get them home once he realized how Blaine was feeling and they fell onto the couch together. Blaine buried his head against Sam's chest and murmured, "I just want to love someone… Someone who loves me and wants me to love them. Is that such a bad thing, Sam?"
"No," Sam replied, rubbing his back and kissing the top of his head. "I don't think it's a bad thing at all."
"Then why is it so hard to find?"
Sam was quiet for a moment and Blaine sighed, remembering that Sam too was single. Before he could say anything further, Sam whispered, "I love you."
He said it with all of his usual sweetness and sincerity and Blaine had the smile. "I love you too, Sam," he replied and closed his eyes tightly. "Sometimes I wish you loved me like I…."
Stopping himself before he could complete a sentence that would probably unnerved even Sam, Blaine bit his lip and tucked his face into Sam's neck.
"I do." Sam's quiet reply rang out in the quiet of the room and he continued before Blaine could pull back to look at him. "I love you so much, Blaine. I think we could be really happy."
Shaking his head, Blaine said, "You're…."
"I'm Sam and you're Blaine and that's all that matters," Sam said meeting Blaine's gaze with pleading eyes. "Love me?"
How was he supposed to respond to that by any means other than the first of a lifetime of kisses to come.
