AN:Hello, and welcome to my very first Pokemon story on the site, and my first story ever if you don't count the test I published a little while back. Anyways, a few things out of the way: I've seen multiple stories where Serena and Misty meet, and they almost always seem to end up with them competing, or hating each other, or having some sort of rivalry. I believe that they would actually become good friends, partly due to Serena's gentle nature.
Another thing: Please, if what you have to say has nothing to do with my story itself, please, instead send it to my DMs. Keep the review section a sacred place.
Okay, last thing, then you can be done with my rambling: can anybody help me figure out how to do horizen lines? I cannot for the love of Arceus figure out how, and I'm really sorry. So, DM me or tell me in the reviews, please!
"And for our next round, Brendan Birch from Littleroot Town in Hoenn will battle Alexander Garret from Galar."
A 19-year-old Serena Yvonne yawned and looked down at her phone. The bleachers that lined the battle stadium were uncomfortable, but she managed. She was here to support Ash.
Ash was participating in the annual Johto league tournament. He had journeyed through the whole region again, and serena has joined him. Along the way, they had officially become boyfriend and girlfriend. Serena now wore one of his many league hats- his Kalos one, to be exact.
The tournament was still in its early stages, and Ash hadn't battled yet, but all competitors were required to stay in the preparation area until they lost- or, hopefully in Ash's case, won. As such, Serena was bored.
She looked around the stadium- it was pretty packed. She was lucky Ash had reserved a row for her and any of his friends that decided to show up… she wouldn't have gotten a seat otherwise.
Serena then noticed a girl, about 18, with bright orange hair tied in a ponytail to the side walking down the reserved aisle. She kept looking down with a piece of paper, probably with a row and seat number written on it, Serena thought. The girl then saw Serena and started walking over.
"Excuse me?" the girl asked quietly, having arrived quicker than Serena expected.
"Yes?" Serena replied quickly.
"Is this the row reserved for friends and family of Ash Ketchum?" The girl asked. Serena now saw that the girl was wearing a hat similar to her own and Ash's.
"It is," Serena answered. "And you are…?"
The redhead laughed. "Oh, I'm Misty Waterflower, leader of the Cerulean City Gym and former traveling companion of Ash!"
The name rung a bell, and Serena's eyes widened. "Ooh, you're the one who called him an 'immature idiot!'"
Misty's eyes widened. "H-he still remembers that?!"
Serena laughed. "He's not mad, I promise. He tells me stories about your exploits together," she winked. "I'm Serena Yvonne, Ash's girlfriend."
"Wait, what?!. Ash didn't tell me he had a girlfriend!" Misty exclaimed.
Serena grinned. "It only took about 5 years, but we finally got together. But he's still just as dense as he was back then." Serena giggled. "It's interesting."
Misty nodded. "That sounds like the Ash I know." Then, an evil grin spread across her face. "Hey, did Ash ever tell you about the Celadon Gym incident?"
Serena's look of confusion said it all. "He never mentioned anything special about the Celadon Gym..."
Misty's grin went wider. She sat down in the chair next to Serena's. "Well sit down and get comfortable, because this story is a long one. It all started when Ash, Brock and I came into Celadon City for Ash's gym battle…"
"...and then Pikachu shocked 'her,' destroying the disguise in front of everyone!" Misty finished with a laugh.
Serena was out of breath from laughing too hard- Ash's desperation and willingness to use an… unusual technique to get inside the gym was too funny. "Wow," she said in between gasps, "I didn't know Ash could be so so desperate."
Misty grinned. "He really is an interesting guy…" she looked out on the battlefield. "You're lucky to have him."
Serena's grin faded. "What?"
Misty looked up from the battle back at the other girl. "Oh, nothing…"
Serena shook her head. "What did you say about me being lucky?"
"Oh, it's nothing, really." Misty's face was turning a light shade of pink. She looked away to try and hide her embarrassment.
Serena's eyes narrowed. "...Do you have a crush on hi-?"
At the word 'crush', Misty's head snapped around to look at Serena. "Of course not! That's silly! Why would I have a crush on a stupid, immature, boyish brat?!"
Serena was taken aback by Misty's outburst. "I-I'm sorry… I opened an old wound, didn't I?"
Misty realized what she had done. "No… I'm sorry, Serena. I didn't mean to yell… but yes, you did."
Serena nodded. "So… did you have a-"
"Yes, I did!"" Misty interrupted her quickly. "I liked Ash! I never got the chance to tell his, and now it's too late!"
"...oh," was all that Serena could manage out. "I… see…"
Misty reached up to her eyes to wipe a few tears that had been forming. "It's fine, really. What's in the past is in the past. Now, tell me… how did you meet Ash?"
Serena frowned. "Are you sure you want to hear that story?"
Misty nodded. "Of course I do!"
"Okay then… it all started when we were much younger, at Professor Oak's summer camp…"
"And then i just gave him the cutest little wave and left!" Serena said. She had told Misty about most of her adventures with Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie.
Misty's jaw dropped. "Y-you actually kissed him?!"
Serena blushed. "I did…" she had a silly little smile on her face as she reminisced about that day.
Misty smiled. "I wish I had had the courage to do that back then…"
"And Benjamin Middleton moves on to the semi-finals! Next up, Ash Ketchum from Pallet town in Kanto will go up against Joshua Fisher from Lumiose city, Kalos!"
"Misty, Ash is battling!" Both girls leaned forward in their seats, cheering for Ash as he walked onto the battlefield, Pikachu on his shoulder.
Ash waved to the crowd and looked towards Serena, blowing her a kiss. He waved at misty before turning to his opponent on the opposite side of the field. "Pikachu, you ready for this?"
"Pika pika!" came his partner's response.
After several long and hard battles, the tournament was over. Ash came in second, unfortunately. Serena didn't mind, though. She was just glad he got as far as he did.
"Good job, Ash!" Misty called out as the two girls walked toward the stadium's entrance, where Ash was waiting for them.
Ash grinned. "Hey Misty! Hey Serena! Glad to see you two met."
Serena nodded. "We've been telling each other stories… Misty told me about a few that you neglected to…" both she and Misty's faces broke into a grin.
Ash seemed confused for a second, until he saw the evil twinkle in Misty's eyes. "No… Misty, you didn't tell her about the Celadon incident, did you?"
"Ash, you gotta show me that sometime," Serena said in evil tone. "You must have looked so cute!"
The black-hair boy groaned, while Pikachu snickered a little bit. "Okay. Serena, you ready to go? We need to get back to the Pokemon Center- Torterra was steamrolled."
"Okay!" Serena replied cheerfully. She turned to look at Misty. "Misty, do you want to come?"
Misty shook her head sadly. "Sorry Serena, but I've got to get back to the Cerulean Gym. it was nice meeting you, though. Let's hang out sometime." She started to walk off, waving at Ash and Serena as she did.
Serena watched her go, before turning back to Ash. "Now, Ash, about that costume…"
Ash groaned. There was no way to get out of this one.
