AN: Prompt number 26 - "painting/sketch".
It wasn't unusual to find Naminé sitting on the beach with her sketchpad, and today was no different. While her friends played Frisbee on the beach or splashed each other in the sea, she sat on a fallen log and sketched, totally absorbed in her art.
Anyone looking at the group would have seen her as somewhat of an outsider, though she wasn't. Drawing was her pastime of choice, and her friends were her favourite subjects. Today's picture featured them all. Kairi, Sora and Riku were grouped together on the sand, Sora using Riku's abdomen as a pillow while Kairi laughed at the expression on Riku's face. Axel and Roxas were sharing a giant, inflatable rubber ring, trying to splash each other while staying afloat. Hayner and Pence brandished Struggle bats at each other, while Olette looked on. Finally, in one corner, alone, was Naminé herself, sketchpad in hand. It represented the nine of them perfectly.
Kairi, wandering over, admired Naminé's work.
"They always look so realistic."
"That's what I'm aiming for. It's like a photograph, but in pencil."
No-one would ever mention all the practice she'd had when she'd been erasing Sora's memories. It was a common, if unspoken, agreement that the past would simply not be mentioned. "We should look forwards," Kairi had said at the time, "to things we can decide, things we can change, rather than back, because the past is set in stone. What's happened has already happened."
Everybody had agreed, particularly Axel, Roxas and Naminé, who had no wish to talk of the atrocities for which they had been responsible.
Naminé's sketches now decorated every house on the islands – they were much more personal, somehow, than photographs. Tearing the page out of the pad, Naminé offered it to Kairi.
"This one's for you, if you'd like to have it."
