373 - revisited

"They are not ceros," Stark says, grim for once. "If they were ordinary ceros, they wouldn't be able to critically injure someone as strong as you. We are able to divide our own soul and control the pieces in battle; those wolves are both Stark and Lilynette. We are the Primera Espada: Coyote Stark and Lilynette Gingerback and this is our power."

There is silence, then; a thoughtful, awed silence barely broken by soft pants. The Vizards think furiously, trying to find a solution, but it truly seems hopeless; too many damned wolves, ceros, whatevers to dodge forever and too few precious minutes in which the Hollow Masks work.

"Game over," says Stark. His voice has become teeth-grindingly patronising, and Love begrudgingly admits to himself it's not easy to sound patronising in a dead bored monotone and admires the elegance of it in spite of himself.

"If you make a run for it," Stark goes on, managing to give the colloquialism a veneer of weary aristocracy, "I won't chase-"

"Ban Kai," says a soft, bored, utterly aristocratic voice; the real thing, this time, made weary and soignée by the weight of the centuries of unbroken line pressing on it. "Chire, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi."

The sky is suddenly a chaos of steel petals glowing pink, glowing red, glowing silver in the uncertain light; engulfing everything in controlled randomness; obliterating the soul-wolves, the guns and a goodly part of Stark's Release clothes.

"Who…" Stark, shocked, is barely able to whisper, but his only answer is a flock of deadly slivers cracking his hollow mask and his very existence.

There is silence once more, once more breathless and awed.

"Young Kuchiki came out rather well, didn't he?" Love asks, like a man in a dream.

"Yeah," Rose answers, like a man waking up. "Mind you, "he adds, grinning like a hyena, "he always showed promise."

THE END

NOTE: It's nobbut a joke, y'know? Was longer, but long jokes are boring, just as long drawn-out battles with twists coming out the arse are boring. Stark's lines are taken from the Onemanga version. Also, reading Stark lines and thinking of the Master of the Scattering of the Self were but one action and I couldn't not write the above. Sorry.
