/ Author's Note: Heyo! I'm starting up a story that will be the holding place for Dramione drabbles. I'm sure that future chapters will be much, much shorter. I just got carried away with this one ^^;; Anyways, enjoy!
It seemed like every night of her seventh year at Hogwarts was plagued by nightmares.
She would wake up when the darkness of the night was at its peak. Then, she would lay with her chest heaving and her forehead beaded with sweat. With her wavy, brown hair splayed across the pillow, she would open her eyes and stare at ceiling for what seemed like hours. Her mind would run over the gruesome images of her dreams, trying to convince herself that it was all in the past.
Hermione thought about the gruesome images her mind ran through while she slept. This night, it was a replaying of that day in Malfoy Manor that she was branded 'mudblood' by Bellatrix's knife. However, instead of her being saved, the witch proceeded with bringing her friends into the picture and mutilating them. Just the thought caused a shot of pain to run up Hermione's lightly scarred arm and her eyes to grow watery. There was no doubt in her mind that the nightmares would return if she were to somehow fall asleep alone. In only a few seconds, she decided she would have to resort to "drastic" measures once more.
Slowly crawling out of her bed, Hermione tip-toed out of the Head Girl's bedroom and into the Prefect common room. Her bare feet made no sound against the wood, as she had experience in avoiding the creaky spots. This was not a new occurrence to be slipping out of her bedroom and into that of another.
When she came upon the Head Boy's bedroom door, her hand slowly twisted the knob. With a light push, the witch was able to slip into the room and close the door behind her. The sound of the door clicking into place was not loud in the least, but it was enough to stir the light sleeper in the room awake.
A visible mop of blonde hair shook softly, and a heavy sigh escaped the owner's mouth. Hermione remained still until she heard his voice ask a simple question. "Again?"
She nodded her head, but seeing that his eyes were closed, opened her mouth. "Yeah." A beat. "It was Bellatrix this time." This seemed to stir a reaction out of him, as he carefully sat up with his elbows supporting him. Draco's gray eyes locked onto Hermione's brown ones, reading the horrible emotions that lay heavy in them. A couple seconds passed before he nodded slowly and fell back onto his bed.
Hermione quickly shuffled over toward the full size bed, but took her time in situating herself on the mattress. Carefully, she moved her body so she was laying parallel to the Slytherin prince. She didn't have to scoot close to him, as Draco took it upon himself to pull her toward him until their bodies were melded together. His arm fell in the crevice of her waist and his hand rested on the area of her back, just behind her heart. Her head lay snuggled against his bare chest, with his own chin resting on top of her head.
A swell of comfort engulfed the both of them. He was a man who had equal, or more, horrors to deal with, and she found solace in the fact she was not alone. Neither one of them wanted to fall asleep, despite the long day that was slowly approaching. All they wanted to do was reap the warmth each provided with the other, since the moment daylight hit, they would have to separate and fall back to their old charade of hating each other.
But for now, Hermione could rest assured that he would always be there at night to comfort her and protect her from the tragedies of the past.
