Author's Note: Something that has been on my mind recently...seeing as I already spoiled myself silly with all the routes, I thought...what if the war never ended after the end of either the Nohr or Hoshido routes...or maybe it did end but something or someone let the fires of war continue until there was nothing more.
And this came about...I know it isn't that long, but I thought I could make this a small drabble series instead...probably two or more chapters in the coming days.
Anyway, hope you enjoy.

For the Future
For as long as Kin could remember, his mother hated talking about the past.
She once told him that the past brought memories of tears and blood and terrible choices.
The Queen wanted to focus on the present, but they all knew it was impossible when the present was nothing but ruins and stones and memories coated in blood.
Where was Hoshido? Where was Nohr?
Nothing remained of the once great nations…nothing but ashes ruled by a Queen that was left behind by brothers and sisters and friends.
Kin remembered when his mother would tell them stories of the princes and princesses of Hoshido and Nohr…they were happy and sad memories she could share with her children. She would tell them about the oldest princes first, both responsible and earnest and kind, how they sacrificed everything to make things right. Next are the two oldest princesses, both of fierce temperament with a heart of gold and love…how they were willing to protect those they loved with their lives…then the two brothers, both so different and yet so similar; both trying to achieve something greater before one of them fell to the darkness in his heart. Finally, the little sisters of the bunch…the Queen would always smile as she told them about the two girls…both sweet and kind, who wanted to see their families happy no matter what.
She would never finish her stories, though and as the years went by, Kin knew why.
The past was a horrible place for her…a horrible place that reminded her of the choices and lives she had taken…
…once upon a time, peace had been restored but it cracked under the forces of the unknown and all that remained was the Queen and the children she had picked up from the ashes that had been Nohr and Hoshido.
She hated the past…because it reminded her of the future Kin and his brothers and sisters would never have…
