Mystery Noise

I was walking down the path to creek near my Uncle John's house, in Macon County, NC on a cold fall day with my friend Joe Woodard, when he sat me down on an old log.
I asked him, "Why did you stop?"
He turned toward me and said, "Mandy, I li..."
All of a sudden I heard a faint noise."Wait one second Joe, did you hear that?"
He stopped and listened, "No" was his reply.
I gave Joe the puppy eyes and said, " Can we go check it out PLEASE!"
" Ok Mandy" Joe said as he finally gave in
" Thank you so much!" I squealed.
We walked into the woods a little farther. I stopped and listened to the noise again, but this time it was louder. " I hear it now,but what be making that noise" he said.
We walked deeper into following the noise, then we turned and were about sit down and froze at the sight before us. The thing- or should I say things- making the noise was...A LITTLE GIRL AND A BABY!
The little girl looked to be about 3 and had red hair and green eyes. The baby, a boy was about 6 months old and looked like his sister. The little girl was holding him the best she could, but clearly she wasn't holding him right.
My heart melted for these kids.
