Lawson's P.O.V
I stood there, glaring forcefully at those pesky 5th graders. I glared at the way they smiled, the way they laughed, the way they played kick ball, but I mostly glared at Detweiler.
How I hated that little runt. How I hated the way he was the most liked kid on the playground. How I hated the way he just sat smirking when sent to the principal's office, and ooo! How I despised that crummy red hat he always wore.
I sat down on the merry-go-round, resting my legs. Telling any kid who came near to 'beat it!'
I scowled at Detweiler again. How I loathed him. He had caused me numerous of problems throughout my life here at third street school and he just sat there happily. Nothing I ever do fazes him. At all! He had made my life so miserable! So stressful!
Detweiler always gets his way. Anything Detweiler does is amazing and important or Unthinkable! Blah! How I hated Detwiller. But other than that, I hated him for getting the one thing-the one person I could never have.
Ashley Funicello Spinelli.
I gave myself a small smirk as I watched her step up to the plate on the kickball field. She'd get a home run on the third throw. It's her strategy this week to throw the team off. Last week it was foul, hit (and if she missed the second kick) hit. Next week it would probably hit on the first throw.
She's amazing. She has that, 'Tough girl' attitude about her. Never takes nothing from nobody. Heck, she even stood up to King Bob-twice! And called him 'some dumb kid' once! Man has she got guts.
Yeah, yeah. I know, I know. She's a fifth grader! She's a whole year younger than me! But still, something's you just don't have control over. Like the fact she probably likes Teej. How I hate him…
But back to Ashley. Yeah, I call her Ashley. Not out load of course. She'd probably pound me if I did but still…Spinelli is what Detweiler calls her, Spinelli is what Miss. Finster calls her, Spinielli is what King Bob calls, Spinelli is what EVERYONE calls her. But I'm the only one who calls her Ashley.
Well you know…in my head.
"Great job Spin!" I look up to see Ashley high-five Detweiler with a smile. As she crosses home plate. Told ya she'd get a home run.
You know I didn't always like Ashley. I mean sure, I thought she was interesting. But man the day I saw her chalk drawing, well I guess you can say it spoke to me. And the experiment. It was revolting! I mean she was KISSING Detweiler! Hello! 'PUKE CITY!' Thank goodness she didn't like it.
I guess you could say I was a little jealous. Grinding my nails into my palms, my teeth gashing together, and my nostrils flaring…
Oh well. She still lets Detweiler put his arm around her whenever he feels like it. And she always goes to him first when she has a problem. Not to mention, when it comes to it, he's always worried more about her than anyone else. Or is that just my crazy mind?
I guess I just have to face the music. Ashley Funicello Spinelli likes Theodore Jasper Detweiler.
"Hey Lawson! You Ok? You've been sitting there all recess." I look up to see Detweiler and his little gang surrounding me. I try to ignore the fact the Ashley is standing closer to him than needed.
"Yeah, thanks for worrying Detweiler." I mumble, getting up and shuffle off.
"YO! LAWSON! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? YOU'RE ACTTING WEIRD!" I freeze at the sound of her voice.
I smirk and looking over my shoulder I call. "Didn't know you cared Ashley!" I hear a blood curdling scream and chucking to myself make my way backing to the building knowing all too well that Ashley was being held back by Detweiler and his friends.
Well, they don't say love hurts for nothing.
