Chapter 1, December 29th 1980 Cape West Apartments
The time had come, the tenants were to evacuate the building by this due date. Kyle Hyde, former Detective was the last left to evacuate. As he left the building, the almost picturesque view of the city came into sight. Where was he to go? Kyle thought to himself.
*BEEP* *BEEP* Kyle's pager began to beep. 'It's probably Rachel' He thought to himself as he switched his pager off. Walking past the nearest post deposit box, he donated the Scarlet Star to the Natural History Museum. His mind wandered back to the events when he met Mags on the rooftop; how painful her voice sounded, how lost she must have felt. But Kyle's case was now worse. He had nowhere to live, no place to stay; hell, even Rachel wouldn't him a hand!
11:32 AM Payphone
Approaching a roadside Payphone, Hyde deposited a coin, and the screen lit-up. It was unreadable, and looked rather beatup. He dialled the number for Red Crown.
"This is Red Crown, how may I help you?" Rachel's voice travelled down the line. 'You called?" Kyle said, with a sarcastic look on his face. "Why haven't you been answering your pager? Ed's been blowing a gasket here!" Rachel moaned. (As if Rachel knew the position he was in,) Kyle thought to himself. 'I've just evacuated the apartments. Today's the big move, you know?' He looked up at the phone screen and noticed he had a short two minutes left on the line. "You've left? That was quick!" Rachel commented. "Where are you off to?" ... For a moment, there was silence on the line. '...I don't know.' Kyle adds with a look of sadness on his face. "If you really wanted, I could lend you my old coach in my place? 'I think i'll pass.' Kyle adds. "Good luck, Kyle!" Rachel says, as she hangs up the phone. 'I'll need it.' Kyle thought.
