"I never…" Masayoshi looked stricken. "I never thought it would be you."
They were standing in Goto's apartment, and Masayoshi briefly thought how fitting it was that it should all end here.
Goto smirked. "You trusted me," he said, his smirk growing into an evil grin. "Right from the start, you trusted me. It was so very foolish of you, Masayoshi."
There was no denying Goto's claim; Masayoshi had always trusted him fully. The truth of that statement made this moment even more difficult to deal with.
"Still," Masayoshi began, his voice wavering just a little, "I know what must be done. Don't think that I'm unprepared. I will always do everything in my power to uphold justice, no matter what." By the end of his little speech, his voice was no longer shaking, and his gaze had become stern and determined.
Goto continued to grin. "I'm the best friend you have, Masayoshi. Are you really willing to end it all now?"
"You are the last source of evil in the universe!" Masayoshi cried. "It is my duty as a hero to destroy evil and protect justice! My personal feelings have nothing to do with it! I will serve the people, and be selfless!"
"Good," Goto said, the sly smirk returning. "Very good. As always, you cannot be deterred from your beliefs."
"That's right! And that's why…" Masayoshi took a deep breath, then stepped forward until he and Goto were only inches apart. "I must do this."
Masayoshi leaned up and pressed their lips together. After a moment, Goto's hand came up to card through Masayoshi's hair.
When the kiss started to toe the line between innocent and passionate, Masayoshi pulled back and smiled. "That's it," he said after a moment.
Goto smiled back at him. "Well done, hero."
Then they kissed again. The universe was finally at peace.
