The room seemed oddly quiet without the company of Haruhi Suzumiya. The girls had all gone out to get a new costume for Miss Asahina, but we're taking quite a while.
'Wait for us to get back!' She had demanded before bolting out of the room, leaving the boys there alone.
Kyon sat on one of the collapsible chairs at the table, a chess board set out in between him and Koizumi.
"So..." He began, hating the silence in the room. "Your 'Haruhi is God theory', the others don't seem to think the same thing."
"That does seem to be true." Koizumi sighed, looking up and smiling at him. "However, it is the only reasonable explanation that I have for my, and the other's, existence. It's difficult to explain but if you want, I could try."
"No thank you." Kyon snapped, tired of long explanations that left him even more confused. "But Miss Asahina and Nagato seem to have other explanations as to why they're here and exactly what Haruhi is. What do you think of their theories?"
The ESPer brushed some hair back and took a deep breath. "Well, they may have their own ideas of what Haruhi Suzumiya may or may not be and I'm not bothered by that. The real issue arises when their respective groups get involved in mine because of beliefs."
"I see. But Nagato said that any theory other that your own contradicts everything that you know and nullifies your reason to exist."
"In some ways, that is true. The belief that Suzumiya is a God of some sort, some within the organisation believe, originally came from her ability to create beings in her own world. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about."
Kyon glanced down at the desk. "Yeah. And if that isn't correct then your job to destroy them wouldn't be so important because they're not creations of Haruhi..."
"So you understand. Yes that is true. However, I know that closed space are formed by Miss Suzumiya's boredom, or when she's in a generally bad mood, so the theory of my organisation seems very true to me and nothing will change my aspect of it. But the confusion comes to even me when it comes to the world that we find ourselves in currently. It seems to bend to Miss Suzumiya's desires, however we don't see a way any of the groups involved can oppose that idea."
"Care to explain further? How can you be so sure that they won't go against that idea?"
Koizumi smiled, a smug little smirk.
"Well, think back. Back to when we created that movie for the school arts festival in particular. The contact lenses that Miss Asahina had to wear. Did Miss Suzumiya not ask her to shoot a beam from her eye beforehand? And your cat that is ed to talk. Did she not ask for that too?"
"She did. I get where you're coming from. Nobody can oppose the theory because there's enough evidence in favour of it being the correct one."
Koizumi nodded. "Yes that is correct. The organisation's theory seems, to me, to be the only one that makes sense. It gives reasons for everyone to be here and you seem to understand too."
'Because you're not speaking nonsense anymore.' Kyon thought. "But hold on a second... You said that only some in your organisation believe that. Do you have a different story?"
For a while, Koizumi stared at him, grinning. With no particular tone to his voice, he said; "Not that concerns you." He stood up and turned to leave, glancing back for a moment. "I'll see you tomorrow." He then left the room.
Kyon stared at the now closed door and thought. 'Geez, just when I thought I could understand that guy...' He sighed.
