Darkness.
I opened my eyes. My head throbbed. What happened? I was... on a soft bed of grass? A canopy of ferns encircled me. I could hear Fletchlings and Pidgeys twittering up above. I turned around. A small pile of Pokepuffs lay beside me. Pawsteps from outside. Panic lanced through me. I struggled to sit up, but to no avail. My leg felt... weird. Oh no. I stole a glance at it. A cast of twigs and leaves held it still. Sweat dribbled down my nose. Pawsteps were louder. Nonono... The plants swished. A Leafeon stalked into the den. I pinned my ears in warning. He bared his teeth. "I'm not going to harm you. Welcome to the TES." Tes? I tilted my head. "Tess?" Irritation pricked his fur. "TES. Third Eevee Sanctuary. We find Eevees that are unhappy, forced to evolve, or captured against will, and bring them here." TES... He leaned over my leg and sniffed it. "Almost healed. By the way, my name is Shizen. I'm the healer of TES. There is also FES, First Eevee Sanctuary, and SES, Second Eevee Sanctuary. They reside... not near us. Good." He ripped a twig off of the cast, and it fell apart. "Now, try standing." I pushed myself up with my three working legs, and delicately touched the fourth to the ground. To my surprise, it didn't hurt. I flexed it. "Good as new... Now, try walking." I took a shaky step, then another. "Perfect. You're good to go. I'll fetch Mizu and Kawa. They will show you around." Shizu left. A moment later, two Vaporeons stalked into the den. One was shorter, with smaller fins. The other was tall, with a hefty frame. The short one spoke. "Hi. I'm Mizu, and this is my brother, Kawa. We'll show you around." Kawa nodded. "We show you around. You follow. First we see clearing." He shoved the vines covering the door away. I gasped. A huge, grassy area stretched before me. Tunnels led off in multiple directions, and hundreds of Eevees and Eeveelutions milled around. I stepped out of the den. Everything went silent. A sea of heads turned towards me. Kawa spoke. "This is a new recruit. We found her abandoned in a ruined hotel. She will stay with us." The crowd cheered, then went quiet again and parted. A small pink dot was floating closer. As it neared, I could make out a head, feet, and a long thin tail. It stopped in front of me, hovering above the ground. Huge blue eyes peered out of the soft pastel fur. It's lips didn't move, yet I heard the voice in my head. "She is special. Respect her. She is the dawn of a new era." The luminous sky colored eyes blinked. It drifted away, back into the crowd. Uneasy voices murmured and shook. Doubt and fear pulsed from Mizu's fur. "L...let's go. I can show you around later." The twins hastily escorted me back into the den, as the multitudes of voices outside clamored for a single explanation: what just happened?
