A Comical Misunderstanding
"Have you ever been here before?" Jackie asked her friend Ashley as they stepped inside a sandwich shop.
"No, but I've wanted to try it for a while now, I've heard really good things about it. Have you been here before?"
"No, but I've also heard really good things about it." Jackie answered.
Soon they were seated and a waitress took their drink order.
"What are you going to get?" Ashley asked.
"Probably the bacon and avocado hoagie. What about you?"
"I think the Ruben."
"Hi Ashley, hi Mrs. Stokes." A woman said.
When Jackie turned her head she found herself looking at Heather Kessler, aka Lady Heather.
"Hi Heather." Ashley responded.
"Hi, how's Ally liking summer vacation?" Jackie asked.
"She's loving it, we go to the park with the swimming pool by our house nearly everyday."
"That's good, would you please tell her I said hi?" Jackie asked.
"Sure, it was nice seeing you both, I'll see you later." Heather said before she left the restaurant.
"How do you know her?" Ashley asked.
"Her granddaughter was in my class, how do you know her?" Jackie asked before taking a drink of her soda.
"I used to work with her." Ashley answered.
Jackie spit out her soda.
"You what?" She exclaimed.
"She was one of the therapists in the clinic I work in. I'm Dr. Montgomery's secretary, but also in the building there is Dr. Lawden and then Dr. Heather Kessler, but she's not there anymore and Dr. Adamson took her place. Why were you so shocked by that?" Ashley asked confusedly.
"I just thought for a moment there that there was a whole other side to you I had no idea about." Jackie mumbled.
"What?"
"Never mind." Jackie said, wanting to change the subject, but also happy that Ashley's job didn't coincide with Heather's other job.
"Oh before I forget to ask are we still going to that comedy show on Friday night?" Ashley asked her.
"Yeah, the tickets are only twenty bucks right?"
"Yeah but I got two tickets for free, a friend of mine bought tickets but then discovered that she'll be out of town for a business trip on the day of the show so she gave them to me."
"That was nice of her." Jackie said.
"Yeah, she should know better than to buy things in advance because she's always going on spur of the moment business trips."
Jackie laughed.
The two women made small talk for a while before Ashley looked at her watch.
"Well Jackie, I better get back to work, not everyone gets the summer off." She told her good friend with a playful smirk.
Jackie grinned at her.
"I'll see you Friday." Ashley said as she stood up to leave.
"Yeah, that'll be fun, thanks for having lunch with me, I'll see you Friday." Jackie said.
The two women left the restaurant and then Jackie drove to an ice cream shop because she had promised the kids that she'd pick up ice cream bars on the way home.
She'd enjoyed herself at lunch and now she was going to go home and spend some time with Nick and the kids on the back patio while everyone enjoyed an ice cream bar which was a perfect treat on a hot summer day in Vegas!
