Jewel
Chapter 1
When I was very young I believed my family was perfect. We lived a perfect life and no one could ever hurt us altleast that is what I believed.
We lived in a small one story house in a community called Dean County, Georgia. Our house had three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There was also a kitchen with adjourning diningroom and a livingroom.
Mommy was a stay at home mom and daddy was a small town lawyer to a local law firm we weren't rich but we never went without anything we needed.
One day when I was six our perfect world collapssed. I was staying at Mrs. Jennings house while mommy went to the store. Mrs. Jennings was a very kind elderly woman in her fifties. She was our nieghbor and my babysitter. I was in her livingroom playing with my dolls, Mrs. Jennings came in with a sad look on her face and told me my daddy was here to get me. I ran into the hall where he was waiting and flung myself into his arms yelling "Daddy! Your home." It was then that I noticed he also looked sad "What's wrong daddy?" I asked wondering what it could possibly be.
"Nothing Jewel hunny. Are you all ready to go home?" he asked putting on a fake smile.
"Yes sir," I replied and smiled back at him.
We drove home although it was right next door daddy hadn't bothered with going home befor he came to pick me up.
"When we got there a strange car was parked in the driveway. I wondered who it was. Daddy must have known they would be there because he didnt look the least little bit surprised.
"We got out of the car and I ran to the door. Once inside I noticed who the car belonged to. It was my aunt Jade. Mommy never liked her much so it was a big surprise to see her here in our house. She was sitting on the sofa crying. I didn't see Mommy anywhere. Daddy came up behind me and I turned around. "Daddy where is Mommy?" I asked. As I said this I seen a tear slip down his cheek that is when I knew there was something terribly wrong.
Daddy motioned for aunt Jade to sit down and he picked me up and carried me to a chair and sat down with me in his lap. "Jewel hunny, mommy is in heaven," he said.
"When is she going to come home?" I asked not understanding what he meant.
"She isn't. She went up there where she could live with the angels and always watch down on you and see how well you are doing," he tried to explain.
"Why did she leave me? Have I been bad?" I asked tears welling up in my eyes.
"No you have been very good and mommy didnt want to go it was just her time to go. Everyone goes to heaven when it is their time and we never know when our time will be," he explained.
At this I began crying very hard. He was telling me my Mommy the most important person in my life was gone. He held me until I got done crying and then he spoke his tone of voice very soft. "You are going to go stay with your aunt Jade, she is going to take very good care of you just like you are her own daughter," he said in a singsong voice trying to make me happy. He didn't understand how wrong the words he just said were.
