Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. Boo hoo.
Birthday Surprise
"Checkmate."
Harry Potter groaned as his best mate once again beat him in a game of chess. He was just about to ask for a rematch when the red haired witch leaning against him declared that it was her turn to play.
As Ron and Ginny started a new game, a loud giggle rang out through the sitting room of the Burrow. Three heads turned to see Hermione Granger reading a piece of parchment with a grin on her face.
As she giggled again Ron jumped up and walked to where she was sitting. He didn't like the sound of that giggle, that giggle was usually reserved for him.
"What's so funny love?" he asked his girlfriend whose face was flushed red. Ron didn't like that flush either; he was always the one to make her blush like that.
He made a grab for the parchment but Hermione pulled it away quicker.
"It's nothing Ron," she said.
"It seemed like a pretty amusing read to be nothing," he shot back.
Hermione sighed; she suddenly wondered what possessed her to read this here and not upstairs in Ginny's room.
"It's a letter from Viktor if you must know."
Identical groans could be heard from the couch where Harry and Ginny were shaking their heads at the mention of Krum.
Ron's fists clenched angrily at his sides. "Well, what does Vicky have to say that is so amusing then?"
"If you must know, he made a suggestion of what I should give you for your birthday."
This was not what Ron was expecting. "He what! Why would he do that?"
"Well, I mentioned in a letter that your birthday is coming up and I wasn't sure what you wanted. So, Viktor asked me what your favorite things were and I told him Quidditch and sweets."
"So he told you to buy me new Quidditch gloves and sweets?" Ron guessed.
Hermione's face turned scarlet. "Well not exactly, he told me to come into your room wearing only Quidditch gloves and covered in sweets."
Harry and Ginny exploded with laughter and Harry promptly fell off the settee. Hermione's head snapped in their direction mortified, clearly she had forgotten they were there.
Ron on the other hand was smiling wickedly. "Well" he said, "I reckon Viktor's a pretty smart bloke after all."
Then to everyone's surprise he turned and walked up the stairs.
"Where are you going?" Hermione called up after him.
"To wait in my room, oh and for the record my favorite sweet is chocolate sauce."
Ron had the feeling this was going to be his best birthday yet.
FIN.
