Dying Feelings
He's alive, but he hasn't felt alive in years.
He's dead, but he doesn't feel dead yet.
He's confused, and he knows that he is.
So Kisame thinks on whether he is alive or dead, lying comfortably in a pool of something red and sticky, and he decides that he feels alive.
He can move his arms and his legs, and he could get up if he wanted to, so he is definitely alive.
He can dodge the attack that's coming; he can get up from the not-so-comfortable pool of something red and sticky that gets caught in his gills and chokes him, chokes the life out of him, but he decides that he'd rather be dead.
Kisame is alive, but he doesn't want to be.

He's dying, but he wants to live.
He's living, but he wants to live longer.
He's greedy, and he knows that he is.
So Kisame thinks about how much longer he would like to live, and how many more people he would like to kill, and how many more times he would like to feel a pool of something red and sticky underneath him, and he decides that he really wants to live.
He can't move his arms or his legs, and he can't get up even though he wants to, so he is definitely already dead.
He can't dodge the attack that's coming; he can't get up from the pool of something red and sticky that gets caught in his gills and chokes him, chokes the life back into him, and he decides that he is still confused.
Kisame is alive, but not for very long, and he isn't quite sure how he feels about that.
