A/N

As one can probably pick up, the story is based on the cinematic trailer for StarCraft: Ghost. Truth be told though, some of the inspiration came from the story Why We Fight, featured in Volume 1 of StarCraft: Frontline. The circumstances were certainly similar enough to prompt me thinking.

Solace

We sit in the darkness of our landing craft,

As if shadow is our friend.

Checking our gear and making bets,

On how many zerg lives we will end.

...

We fly into danger, down to the LZ,

To do battle as before.

Already they are calling this conflict,

The Third Koprulu War.

...

Some of us ponder, some of us pray,

We all know what we will fight.

We'll battle the critters all through this dark day,

And into the Saran night.

...

I see through my HUD that the skies are red,

It's something to remember.

Because on the field of battle below,

Neither man nor beast will surrender.

...

Times are changing, these days are cursed,

Continuing what began on that dark day.

On the 8th of December, six years ago,

When Chau Sara boiled away.

...

The zerg came first, the protoss came second,

Destroying all that we knew.

The Confederacy went down in ashes,

Mengsk's proclamations ringing true.

...

And at the very back of the ship,

The telepath sits alone.

Isolated even more so than us,

In the Fringe Worlds so far from home.

...

The ship starts to dive, the ship starts to spin,

We plunge down into the fray.

Will we be shot out of the air,

Or shall we see the light of day?

...

The red lights come on and now I can see her,

The one who is so different.

I show the Sarge how she checks her rifle,

To everything else indifferent.

...

We start to touch down, the ramp descends,

We surge out, our merry band.

The ground erupts, zerglings spring up,

The teep guns them down where they stand.

...

I glance at the Ghost as she reloads her rifle,

And I know that we will survive.

For not even the zerg can put to an end,

That which isn't alive.
