"Dear Diary," Ginny wrote while hiding in her room. She paused, unsure of what to say next. She could talk about how she found her new diary tucked inside another book while unpacking from her trip to Diagon Alley. She could give some background on herself, because thats what people do with new diaries... right? Or she could jump right in and talk about her crush, Harry Potter. He happened to be staying with her family for the latter part of the summer holidays, and it was his presence that drover her into hiding. She was unbelievably clumsy and unsure of herself when he was around, and falling down the stairs whenever she happened to see him was rather painful. Staying put, in her room, was far safer.

She had just decided to talk about her day, when the words on the page disappeared. Ginny stared wide eyed at where the ink had been and was reaching out to turn the page (did it just seep through?) when different words started forming where hers was not a moment ago.

"Actually, my name is Tom. You have somehow stumbled upon MY diary."

Ginny blinked. Her mouth had fallen open in shock. She promptly closed it, and wrote back.

"Hi Tom. I'm Ginny. I'm so sorry to have bothered you. I didn't realize that this diary was already being used. Do you need me to return you home?"

She only had to wait a moment before...

"Hello Ginny. That is very kind of you, but I would rather not be suck on a shelf with no one to talk to for more years to come. I would, of course love to go back to Hogwarts, but I haven't a clue who I might know there."

"You could know me!" she scribbled, "I am about to be a firstyear!"

"That is wonderful." Tom wrote back. "My favorite place, and a new friend to go along with it! Why don't you tell me about yourself Ginny"

Ginny's face broke into a wide smile. She couldn't believe her luck! She had been feeling so isolated and, as if by magic, this diary had fallen into her lap, or cauldron to be more specific. Now she had someone to talk to. And, more than that, she had someone that she didn't have to share with her brothers. She decided right then that she wouldn't tell anyone about Tom. He would be her little secret.
