Story:

You were Wonderful

Written by:

Loverly Loving - Fool

It's late in the evening she's wondering what clothes to wear, standing inside our small walk in closet, hair still wet; she's wrapped in a fluffy white towel. Her fingers flow over a row of white hangers gently, contemplation spread across her face. She pauses near the end, her slim fingers gently wrap around a simple white dress, and it lightly falls around her, as she slides it over her damp head.

She puts on her makeup, and brushes her long brown hair. She's standing in front of our full length mirror, and fusses with the straps of her dress. She turns, and then she asks me, "do I look alright." I gaze at her, hair flows framing her radiant face, and then meeting the neckline of a pure white dress, proceeding to an inch above her knees. And I say, "Yes, you look wonderful tonight."

We go to a party, we walk through the doors, and her hand is in mine. Her smile is wide, her eyes are bright. She laughs; she speaks, she glows. A blush forms on her cheeks, as the night goes on. She stays with me throughout the evening and everyone turns to see, this beautiful lady, is walking around with me. She releases my hand for about a second and replaces it on my cheek, and then she asks me, "Do you feel alright?" Her eyes are wide, her face, concerned, and I say "yes, I feel wonderful tonight."

She leaves me for a moment, and walks through the party, her body sliding gracefully through the crowd, her feet maneuvering every elegant move. She's left me on a balcony, it overlooks a lake, stars are reflected on every square inch of its surface. Its beauty reminds me of her. I turn around, and she is there standing in the doorway smiling at me, and I feel wonderful because I see the love light in her eyes, and the wonder of it all is that she just doesn't realize how much I love her.

It's time to go home now, everyone else has gone. I gather our belongings, and she waits by the door. She looks at me worry wrinkling her face; I've got an aching head, so I give her the car keys, she drives home instead. The house is dark, she turns on the light. She guides me upstairs, she helps me to bed. I hear from the bedroom, water rushing from the spout, I hear the difference when she splashes it on her face. The light flowing from the doorway goes out, and she appears in a lacy pink nightgown, she slides into bed. And then I tell her as I turn out the light, I said "My darling you were wonderful tonight" I kiss her lightly on the mouth and I say, "You were wonderful tonight."
