Soft music echoed from the small choir room as Kurt walked the deserted hallways of McKinley high school.

No one was ever there on a Saturday, and he was only there to pick up his French textbook.

He felt drawn towards the soft sound of the piano notes, and as he got closer to the little room, he heard a voice accompanying the sweet melody of the piano.

It was a voice he could recognise anywhere. A voice that always made him freeze and just listen. But this time, he froze for the wrong reasons. The voice was cracked and sounded melancholy.

Kurt forced himself to move faster towards the voice. Closer towards his boyfriend, who sounded so desolate.

As he rounded the corner to the choir room, he heard the lyrics, a song he had never heard before.

Baby I'm not alone!

Cause you're here with me!

And nothing's ever gonna take us done,

Cause nothing can keep me from

Loving you!

And you know it's true!

It don't matter what'll come to be,

Our love is all we need, to make it through

Kurt silently prayed to the God in which he didn't believe, that it wasn't Blaine, it wasn't the boy who was so courageous all the time, sitting behind that door. He listened to the boy sing, sounding so desperate and lost in his music.

Kurt slowly walked around the door, into the tiny room, and focused on the man sitting by the piano, who had just finished his song, with tears streaming down his face.

With a gasp, Kurt ran to his boyfriend's side, sat at the piano and just let him cry. Kurt didn't know how long they sat there like that. Just sitting, and letting Blaine cry. But he didn't care. All that mattered in that moment was Blaine.

Blaine slowly calmed down, and pulled away from Kurt, wiping the tears from his eyes. He looked away and absently played a few notes on the piano.

"Blaine…" Kurt said, wondering what he should say to his obviously not okay boyfriend.

He tried again, "Blaine… what was that song about?"

"My... My old school." he admitted eventually.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

Blaine stayed silent for a long time, and Kurt thought he wasn't going to get an answer, until, "Y-yes."

Blaine had never told Kurt how bad the bullies had been at his old school. He hadn't told him about the worst of it. The only thing that didn't leave him physically injured.

"I-, I never told you about the worst of my bullying. It wasn't all just words."

Kurt had known Blaine had been hiding something the past year. He had known he wasn't all happy all the time.

But nothing could have prepared him for what came next. What Blaine showed him.

Blaine breathed in slowly, and carefully pulled his shirt up, revealing many scars all over his torso. Blaine's hands were shaking, his eyes closed.

"They… They used to beat me up. Almost every day, I would hardly be able to get up. And one time, I ended up in the hospital. I was in so much pain. They had pulled a knife on me after school, while I was walking home." At his point, Blaine had started crying again, his body shaking with each sob.

Kurt held him until he was calm enough to speak again.

"After that day, my parents decided I was safer at Dalton, so I transferred, as soon as I was discharged. I never went back to that school again."

Kurt couldn't believe his ears. He couldn't believe someone could do that to such a perfect boy, a perfect human being.

Kurt didn't understand how someone could hide this. How they could be so optimistic all the time, but deep down, everyone has their secrets. He'd just happened to stumble on Blaine's by accident.

Kurt and Blaine just sat there, holding each other, while Kurt gently hummed "Safe and Sound."

Blaine and Kurt became closer after that, both knowing each other's secrets. They were inseparable.

"Would you… Could you play me that song again? Did you write it?"

Blaine nodded slowly and started playing the sweet melody again.
