I'm feeling like a star,

You can't stop my shine,

Loving cloud 9,

My head's in the sky.

Riding Solo – Jason Durulo

BZZZZT

Sam's eyes fluttered open an she glanced toward the horrible, boring, noisy ringtone on her phone as it sat on the bed side table.

BZZZT

"Shuuuuttt upppp…" She moaned at her phone, but answered it anyway.

"Yeah?"

"Hey Sam." Danny coughed a few times before continuing. "Sorry, I won't be at school today. I'm sick."

"What? Why? You can't do that!" Sam whined. "It'll just be Tucker and I!"

She could hear him laugh on the other end of the line.

"Sorry. I don't want to give anyone else the cold. I'll see you tomorrow, okay? Bye."

He hang up after Sam said goodbye.

Why is he doing this to me?

"Saaaammm!" Tucker whispered to her from the desk next to her.

She sighed, not taking her eyes off of her worksheet. "What?" she hissed back.

"Where's Danny?"

"He's sick."

"What? Is he okay?"

"He's fine. It's just a cold."

"Why are you so cranky?" Sam thought that Tucker said that just to tip her over the edge a little. It worked.

"Lay of it, Tucker. I'm not cranky." Suddenly, the light bulb flicked on in Sam's head. "That's it!"

"What is it?" Tucker asked.

"We should make a "get better soon" card, signed by our whole English class!"

"Sign here, thanks." Sam passed the card around the room. She was so thankful for Mr Lancer for letting her do this. He must've been having a good day! Was it because Danny wasn't there?

"What do I say?" A nerdy kid asked her.

"I dunno. 'Get well soon'? 'We miss you'?"

He pushed his glasses up his nose. "Alright."

After that kid signed, it was Paulina's turn. "Ew, why would I want to sign that?"

"To lift his spirits…" Sam wanted to punch her in the face, but she kept her cool.

"Whatever." She wrote "Get better - Paulina" with a heart dotted on her 'i'.

"That's it?" Sam asked.

"You're wasting my time," Paulina checked out her nails. "Leave me alone, freak."

"Danny?" Sam knocked on his door.

"Come in." He had a thermometer in his mouth, measuring his temperature.

It fell out of his mouth and onto the bed when he saw that it was Sam.

"What… what are you doing here?"

She hugged him and handed him the card.

He opened it and read all the positive comments and 'best wishes' that his classmates had written.

"Thank you… so much."

"No problem. You better make a card for me when I'm sick!"

Danny laughed. "You always seem to make me feel better somehow."

"I try my best for you." Sam joked.

"You know I love you, right?"

"Yes, I know."

"I can't live without you."

"I know. I feel the same."

They both leaned in and kissed.

"Uh oh…" Sam grinned, breaking away from the kiss, "I think I'll be getting a "get better" card in no time."
