The sky was streaked with pink and orange, and the sun was gradually inching down towards the horizon. A few birds chirped in the distance, but other than that, the neighbourhood was absolutely silent. Conan was slouching somewhat in his chair, annoyed at the prospect of doing first grade math homework for the entire evening. Ms. Kobayashi had just started teaching her students how to divide numbers.

Bored, Conan decided to take a break to gaze at the sunset. Dusk was one of the few times of the day when he was at peace and did not worry about being discovered by the Black Organization. Although he tried not to show it because he was a boy, Conan lived in terror and fear practically every moment of his life. Not only did he worry for his own safety, he was also tremendously concerned with Ran's safety, and was so consumed by this fear that it was difficult for him to fall asleep at night. He was also edgy much of the time, since it was taking such a long time to defeat the Black Organization. The Organization members were all skilled at hiding any evidence of the Organization's existence.

Conan reflected on his life during the sunset. In a way, it represented him; the sun was setting, just as Conan was going through some difficult experiences. However, the sun always rises in the morning. He was confident that his own sun would rise someday, and he would be able to return to his former body.

He grinned at this thought, and then sauntered back to his desk to begin his homework.
