"We need to talk," you say to her.
"About what?" she asks happily.
"About us."
"Well, what about us?"
"It won't work." You watch her expression fade.
"You say this every time, Remus," she says looking away.
"I know. But I'm serious."
"I think you're just paranoid," she says as she plays with the hair behind your ear.
"You think a lot of things," you reply, snappily.
"It can work," she protests.
"No, it can't."
"Why are you always so negative?" she asks, irritated.
"I'm not negative."
"You are too."
"No, I'm not."
"Yes, you are."
"Stop it," you say, seriously.
"Fine, but it can work. We can make it work."
"Why won't you ever listen to me?" you say, annoyed.
"Why won't you ever listen to me? It can work. It's worked for this long."
"It won't work any longer."
"And why not?" she asks.
"Because, it just won't," you say.
"Why, Remus? You keep saying it won't but you never give me a reason."
"Do you want a reason?"
"Yes."
"Do you really want a reason?"
"Yes, Remus I really do!" she says sarcastically.
"I am a werewolf!" you say angrily. "Don't you see? I am not normal. Things won't work."
"Well, I'm not normal either."
"Things won't work," you say.
"We can make them work," she replies once more.
"No, we can't!" you say forcibly.
"Yes we can! We can make it work!"
"Don't you see it, Nymphadora? It's not going to be like those fairy tales, with a happy ending. It won't ever be like that."
"I don't want it to be like that! I don't care about that kind of stuff. I want you and that's it!"
"It's not that simple…"
"We can work it out! Don't you want to, Remus?" she asks looking at you.
"You know I do…" you say quietly.
"Then why won't you even try?"
"Because I know how things will end up! What if something happens?"
"What if something doesn't?"
You pause. "I have to go," you say standing up.
"No, Remus. No, don't do this," she says shaking her head.
"I have to," you say looking away from her teary eyes.
"No, you don't. I know you don't."
"I told you I wouldn't be able to stay long," you tell her.
"Stop," she says as you make your way to the door. "Stop. Don't go."
"You see, this is what is going to happen," you say turning toward her. "This is how it's going to be."
"Remus…" she begins
"I really have to go."
"Remus, wait… stay… just a little bit longer," she asks you.
"I can't."
"Remus, please. Please, just stay," she pleads.
"I have to go," you repeat.
"Wait. I just… Remus – I –" she begins.
You walk over to her and put a finger to her lips.
She opens her mouth to speak anyway. "I love you."
You lean in to kiss her, then break away and walk out the door.
