The scenery was breathtaking. The setting sun enshrouded everything around me with a calming shade of orange, making the sea look even more beautiful than it already was. I closed my eyes and listened to the singing of the birds above me as a soft breeze wafted through the tree's green leaves.
I knew I shouldn't have come here on my own but the rest of the crew was sleeping and I felt as if something was calling me; was needing me to be on this island. Without so much as thinking about what I was doing I transformed into my eagle form and left the ship.
'I'm just going to look around, no big deal.'
As soon as I arrived on the island I transformed back and looked around to be greeted by a magnificent view. It wasn't the first sunset on sea I had ever seen, but it certainly was one of the most beautiful ones. The only thing that pulled my mood down a bit was the fact that I couldn't stay here too long without anyone noticing my absence. While I was walking around, following the strange feeling that had brought me here in the first place, I asked myself if the others would mind taking a closer look at this island the next day. Well, I was actually pretty sure my captain had that in mind anyway.
The deeper I walked into this forest, the more anxious I felt. I knew something was not right here at all. I knew I should have left right away. But I didn't. I desperately wanted to know what was calling me. Sure enough, I found that out fairly quick. At first I didn't even recognise it but there was something– no, someone lying under a tree.
Of course I wanted to know if the person was dead or just sleeping, so I decided to walk closer to check if the someone was still breathing. Once I was half-way to reaching that person I stopped in my tracks and my heartbeat quickened quite a bit. Grass was certainly not supposed to be red. I gulped and took a deep breath before I found myself to be able to take more steps towards the obviously injured person in front of me.
When I finally arrived I swallowed the lump I didn't even notice I had in my throat until then and knelt down. Judging by the person's body it was a man but his face was hidden by a black cap, so I was unable to guess his age. A black cap that, for some reason, looked really familiar. I scanned the young man a bit more and noticed the black shirt and trousers he was wearing. Yes, that looked awfully familiar.
My hand was shaking as I reached out for his cap and slowly removed it from his face. Then I went pale and my eyes widened in shock. We were never close to each other or anything but seeing him like that almost made me cry. It brought back some very unpleasant memories. Memories I managed to suppress until now. It was more than obvious where his injuries came from and the mere thought of that person being here on this island scared me more than anything else.
Panicking slightly, I looked around to make sure he was not anywhere near this area, only to remind myself of the fact that – if he would have been close – he would have known I was here. And if he knew he wouldn't just leave me alone like that.
I let out a shaky breath I didn't know I was holding and brought my attention back to the man lying before me. One thing was for certain: I definitely couldn't just leave him here. His breathing was terrifyingly slow, just like his pulse. Not to mention that he was losing way too much blood.
'If I leave him he's going to die...'
After looking around once more to make sure that really nobody was watching me, I took another deep breath before transforming into my eagle form again. I looked down at the unconscious man and carefully picked him up with my left foot. Seconds later I was up in the air, flying back to the ship I came from.
