Peter stood in shock for a moment, than ran after Edmund. He found his brother, walking on, silently seething.
"Ed, I ––– I'm so sorry. I was under her spell." Peter said, hoping to calm his brother down.
"Yeah, not the best, is it?" Edmund jabbed.
Peter froze in his tracks, then said to his brother. "Is that what it felt like, when she . . .? Peter dropped off.
Edmund stopped and turned, so as to face the wall next to him. Peter could see, that his brother was close to exploding.
"How? How, Peter? How could you even consider it? Don't you remember what she did? To Aslan, to our people, to our country? To me?" Edmund was yelling now, drawing the attention of Lucy, Susan, Caspian, who had also rushed in to help with the small battle. "How could you even consider it, Peter?" Edmund repeated.
They looked at each other, for a moment, until Peter asked, burning at the forefront of his mind.
"Edmund, what did she do to you?" The girls behind him silently gasped, none of them had ever learned about what happened to Edmund at the Witch's hands, even after 17 years. Peter had comforted Edmund when he was younger and still having recurring nightmares about the situation, but never had Edmund disclosed the contexts of his dreams.
"You don't want to know." Edmund responded.
"Please, Edmund, I have to know! You've kept this inside far too long! Please, just tell me?"
Lucy, Susan, and Caspian then approached them. Peter, still angry with Caspian for being the cause of this problem, was about to make a snide remark towards the young prince, but Edmund stepped in.
"No, he can stay! He is to be the future ruler, he must hear of this."
Edmund turned, and began pacing, as he so often had when contemplating during his reign. At last, he seemed not to be able to hold it within him anymore.
"She tortured me." Everybody inhaled at this statement. "She kept me in chains so tight, they left scars. She gave me no food or water, and everyday, she came in and whipped me, or slapped me so hard it bled." At this, Edmund pulled down his tunic just enough so as to let his siblings and the prince see the dozens of small, crisscrossing scars etched upon his chest. Peter gasped, wondering how Edmund had been able to keep them secret from him for so many years. "When the Narnians rescued me from her clutches, I was so delirious, that I remembered nothing until my meeting with Aslan." As Edmund concluded, his brother swept him up in a bear hug, one that Susan and Lucy quickly joined.
Caspian, who had been standing quietly off to the side, listening with interest, was amazed by the closeness between the four siblings. After learning more stories of their Golden Age and reconciling with King Peter, he realized that the people, standing before him were not the young children they appeared to be. They were not just Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie.
Edmund was King Edmund the Just, whom Queen Lucy spoke so highly of, telling Caspian of the many trials he performed, and how he was fair and just, with even the Witch's followers.
Peter was King Peter the Magnificent, whom everybody loved, and was a wise and protective king. He never fought for vengeance or spite, but always fought for Narnia and Aslan.
Susan was Queen Susan the Gentle. She was firm and she fought when necessary, but was always kind, caring, and compassionate. She loved her country and Aslan with all of her heart.
Lucy was Queen Lucy the Valiant. She always found the good in every creature and stood up for her own rights. She was magnificent with her kindness, gentle with her subjects and friends, and just in the ways she treated her people. She was Valiant.
The Pevensies reigned for 15 years. Though they left Narnia, their subjects never forgot how Magnificent, Gentle, Just, and Valiant their rulers were.
Long Live King Peter!
Long Live Queen Susan!
Long Live King Edmund!
Long Live Queen Lucy!
Long Live Aslan!
