No Reason

"Impact!" Said elf yelped in surprise as the rock beneath his feet crumbling into nothing but pebbles, plunging him into the watery depths below. Impact thrashed around at first, trying to grasp the fact that he was now in the water. He started to swim towards the surface, being able to break through and gasp for air.

"Snowfoot!" he called out, seeing his furry friend diving in after him. Impact tried to stay above water, but the current dragged him down, engulfing him in the freezing chamber once more. Again and again the elf tried to keep his head, but the course continued to drag him back down. Finally, after what felt like a lifetime of struggling, two arms wrapped around Impact's body, bringing him to the surface where he was able to breathe the beautiful air. Snowfoot swam his friend over to the bank, dragging both of their soaked bodies out of the rushing river and onto a soft patch of grass.

"You're insane! You know that?" Impact smiled down at the jaguar cub, who was shivering and coughing up water.

"Not my fault!" he shot back, glaring back at the spot where he was fell into the river. "It's the rock's fault! It gave way and made me fall into the river!"

"Whatever, kitty. Just be more careful," The elf chuckled as he sat in the grass, looking at the sun that began to set behind the rocky mountains.

"I have a name, ya know," hissed the cub as he glared at Impact.

"Well, you never told me it," he replied, smiling down at him. The cub huffed, sitting upright and staring at the setting sun as well.

"Snowfoot," he finally spoke, making the elf look over at him in confusion. "My name is Snowfoot."

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Snowfoot," Impact held out his hand, a smile dancing across his lips. "My name is Impact. Where ya from?"

"I don't remember, exactly," he confessed, looking down in the grass. "I was brought out with my mentor to do some training, but I got separated from him. I tried finding him, and... well... I fell in the river..."

"Huh. That sucks," he said, though the smile still remained. "If you want, you can come back to camp with me! I can help you look for your mentor, too!"

"R-really? You'd help me?" Snowfoot gave a hopeful smile at the elf, who nodded happily.

"Yeah! If it means you'll be safe and not fall into any more rivers," he chuckled. Snowfoot playfully punched his arm, chuckling himself.

"Well, thanks, Impact. I'd love to."

"Hey, Snowfoot?" The snow jaguar looked over at Impact, who was still laying in the grass. "You remember this place?"

"No. Why?" he asked, looking around the area. "I mean, we've crossed by here many times during journeys. Why bring it up now?"

"Oh, no reason," Impact smiled as he finally sat upright, looking over at the mountains, that beautiful sunset reflecting in his eyes. "No reason at all, kitty."
