Wrote this free-form poem a few years back. Put it up on dA and it seemed to get good reviews, so I thought I'd stick it up here. Continuity doesn't matter, nor do the characters, nor does the faction. Who do you think is speaking? Who's answering? There is no wrong answer, technically, though I'd have a bit of a hard time imagining, say, Megatron or Shockwave in the position of the speaker's target. That's just me, though. XD
If you so choose, please let me know what you think of the piece in a review, and perhaps who you think the characters are. Read and enjoy! :3
"Who are you?"
Who are you?
giant being, total stranger
two tall legs
made of metal
you stand, unflinching,
to face the world
the cosmos
with analytic eyes
made of glass
Who are you?
What have you seen?
far-off planets gleaming
star-like;
a raised fist
twisted face
shouting;
a peaceful handshake
exchanging smiles
a promise of tomorrow
Who are you?
aged eons, not years
when you were young
my species was being born
how to relate
how to see
how can you understand
me?
a small, fragile thing
such a short life
compared to yours
What happens when I'm gone?
Will you remember me?
Who are you?
steel soldier
steadfast, strong
indomitable
perhaps, I think,
more used to a weapon
in hand
than, say, a pen
a paintbrush
another hand
I could never take a life
yet, every day,
that is your duty
your order
if you fail, you or
your comrades may die
Are we so similar?
Who are you?
What are your dreams?
Do you like this war
you're fighting?
or would you rather
go home
elsewhere
another world, maybe
Who are you?
How do you view your enemies?
are they scum
beasts
in need of eradication
or not so unlike
yourself
in another life
could you have been friends
brothers
secret-keepers
Were you that way
before the bombs started
dropping like fiery flowers?
Where is your family now?
Who are you?
a thinker
a do-er
a planner
a mover
a follower
a leader
a comer
a leaver
Or are you all at once?
Who are you?
sit with me a space
look up
What do you see?
the blue of Earth
or the stars beyond,
among which your own sun
waits
I think I see
all that at once
the great unknown blended
with the familiar of home
a starry face
winks
between feathered clouds
drifting by on a breeze
Do you see it, too?
You do?
Who are you?
I know you're good to talk to
I am, too? Thank you
Are we so similar?
Are we so different
after all?
Who are you?
