We were standing out on the cliff, watching the hurricane move closer and closer towards Arcadia Bay. Chloe was gripping my hand tightly; it was as if she believed that letting go was immediate death – and it kinda was.
"Max," I look up at Chloe, "You need to decide: Arcadia Bay or me?" She looked at me intently. My answer determined her fate, after all. I looked away, the weight of my decision bearing down on me, and out over the water. The waves tempest tossed. Tempest…
I gripped Chloe's hand tightly, excitement filling my veins, "I've just had an idea!"
Chloe looks at me, confused. "Well, what is it? We don't have all day!"
I turn to Chloe and gaze firmly into her eyes, "I'm going to go back; all the way back to the day that Rachel Amber disappeared. And I'm going to save her."
Chloe stared at me, eyes wide, "Do you really think you can do that? I thought you said that you can only go back so far?"
"Well, if what I believe is true: then at this moment my powers are at their peak, meaning that I can go back even further than before," I paused, "This will mean that I will be back in Seattle, however, I will remember all that has happened thus far and will be able to tell you everything that happened in this timeline."
"And what if I don't believe you? I was hella pissed when you left and completely stopped talking to me…"
I grabbed both of Chloe's hands, "Don't worry; I can be pretty convincing. Besides, I believe that this will be my last chance to reverse time. So everything after – I mean… before? – everything Before this moment will be different – and permanent. Chloe…this is the only other option I can think of. If Rachel never died then you wouldn't have gotten into that mess with Nathan and you wouldn't have died in the first place. This would also mean, however, that I never discover my power to reverse time and—"
"—and I never would have gotten to see you again," Chloe interrupted, "I mean, I was lucky to stumble across you in the first place, ya know? And if Rachel was still alive, we would be miles away in LA or New York - or somewhere other than Arcadia Bay…" she gripped my hands tighter.
"Listen, after I reverse time I will come straight to Arcadia Bay to help you keep Rachel alive, okay? That should be proof enough to you that I mean business with what I will – did? – tell you. I would rather you and everyone in Arcadia Bay happy and alive – including Rachel."
I looked at Chloe whilst she was deep in thought. Then she looked at me, her eyes ablaze.
"I'm ready, Max; Do your thing."
I let go of Chloe's hands and raise my hand to the sky. I'll see you soon, Arcadia Bay. With that thought I began the journey back in time….
