Prologue
1998
A nine year old boy was attacked by what he described as a "large bird". He claimed the large, black bird with piercing red eyes grabbed onto his jacket, and lifted his feet from the ground. The "bird" dropped him when his friends threw sticks and stones at it.
He described it as being a big as a man, and says he saw it perch on top of a tree before flying off. His friends all seem to agree with his story.
"The largest flighted bird is the California Condor, and this species has never been spotted here. Even if a Condor somehow found its way across the Northern Pacific, it would be impossible for a Condor – even an unusually big one – to lift a 45Kg boy from the ground. Any bird that could is not flighted.
"Yet, this boy and his friends are sticking adamantly to their story, which has never wavered in the smallest detail no matter how frequently they've been asked to retell what they are claiming happened.
"We have no idea what it could have been".
"Yes, I agree it was getting pretty dark", one of the lines crew admitted. "I know what I saw: that damn eagle was as big as a two seater Cessna. I ought to know, I have several thousand hours in that very model. The eagle landed on top of a transmission tower, and I had something to compare its scale. I know what I saw".
These are the latest in a recent string of sightings of what are being called Unidentified Mysterious Animals. So far, there has been no official explanations, nor have there been any denials either. For now, the unidentified and fantastical animals remain a mystery.
