Forgotten Identity – Chapter One

The man awoke lying down in the wet mud. It was raining heavily, splashing water and mud all around him. Without standing up, he could tell he was lying on the shore of some body of water. Ahead of him, he saw wooden shacks. The man finally stood up, dizzy. He now had a better view of his surroundings. He was just outside the Imperial City Waterfront. A ship was sailing away. The man tried to read the name of the ship, painted on the side, but he couldn't make it out.

Beginning to walk toward the wooden shacks, the man tried to remember just what was going on. He began worrying when he could not even remember his own name. Or anything about him for that matter. He needed to get inside somewhere and figure out what was going on. His first thought was The Bloated Float Inn.

By the time he arrived at the inn, an anchored boat, he was fully awake and aware. He noticed he had a leather satchel with him and was wearing thin and tattered clothing. He had no shoes, and had cuts on his feet.

"Need a room for the night?" the High Elf innkeeper asked him. The man nodded. He rummaged through the satchel and eventually found the coins to pay.

Once in his room, he dumped the contents of the bag onto his bed. As he did that, he saw writing on the satchel. Property of Octavian Vivio. The man had found his name. That was a start.

Now, Octavian examined the contents of the bag, sprawled across the bed. There were about thirty coins. There was also a cloth bound book, but when he looked through the book, it was all nonsense. The cover had an ink drawing of dagger that seemed to be glowing.

The only other thing there was in the bag was a copper pocket watch. Octavian tried to open it, but he could see that there was a keyhole, and it did not want to budge. With that, Octavian put everything back in the bag and quickly fell asleep.
