I Love You

"I love you."

Those seemed to be the three favourite words of Sirius Orion Black.

"Ta, Moony. I love you." As Remus handed over the notes he'd taken in History of Magic.

"Oh Remus, I LOVE you!" When a strategy Remus had whispered in his ear earlier that day won him a game of chess against James.

"Goodnight. Love you." Every night, as he put on his pyjamas and slid into bed.

"Good morning. Sleep well, love?" Every morning, when Remus was getting dressed after his shower, as Sirius looked up groggily from his bed.

It seemed like everywhere Sirius went, those three words followed. Whatever reason there was, or even for no reason at all, Sirius would profess his love for Remus at an alarming rate.

Of course, Sirius professed love to James, Peter, Lily, every girl who walked past, some of the professors, heck, even Snape had qualified for love status once, though it was in a scathing, derogatory tone. It didn't matter to any of those people though, because none of them was in love with Sirius. And Remus was.

"Moony." Remus' thoughts were interrupted by Sirius' head, peeking through the curtains of his four poster. "Can I sleep over here tonight?"

Remus rolled his eyes, scooting over. "Aww, is the ickle Sirikins afraid to sleep in his own bed. Not to worry, Moony-woony will take care of you."

"Oh Rem... you're a git, but I love you." Sirius grinned, sliding effortlessly under the covers, dressed only in his boxers.

Remus didn't know what made him say it... the tiredness? The naked flesh lightly brushing his own? Years of built up love you-s? "No, you don't."

It was barely more than a breath, but Sirius heard. "Don't what?"

Remus stiffened. "Nothing."

"Don't make me tickle you." Sirius threatened, a dark tone worming it's way into his voice.

"No!" Remus laughed. "If you love me, you won't tickle me."

"If you love me, you'll tell me what you said." Sirius replied, his grin pretty much audible in his voice.

Remus, however, felt his smile fade away. He knew Sirius well enough after seven years to know that he wasn't going to drop this one, even if it took him weeks to find out. Sirius was just persistent like that. "Don't love me."

"Oh Rem. Of course I do." Sirius wrapped his arms protectively around Remus. "You're my sweet little Moony-kins. Of course I love you."

Any other day, Remus would have left it at that. Would have buried the hurt and said something stupid about him not loving Sirius, because who could love a blanket hogging git? Then they would fight, and giggle, and that would be the end of it. Today though, for whatever reason, Remus went on.

"No you don't. Not... not the way I love you."

"Oh." Was all Sirius said, and there was a silent, pensive moment as the air seemed to lighten, all the oxygen abandoning the space between the curtains of Remus' bed. And then there were warm, loving lips pressed against Remus', and a tongue gently caressing his lip, and the world was wonderful again.

Hardly daring to believe it, Remus was hesitant in his response, but when Sirius slid a warm, gentle hand up his chest, passion took over and he pressed back firmly, his tongue stroking Sirius' lovingly. They remained locked in that kiss for a long time, the whole world seeming to vanish around them as pent up feelings of many years exploded in an expression of sheer need. And then Sirius pulled back, and Remus could practically taste his smile.

"Good night, Rem. I love you."

Remus grinned, cuddling up to Sirius as he gave his response. "I love you too."
