Author's Notes: Written for a friend on livejournal. Takes place during season 9ish. No specific spoilers.

She followed him out of a faith that was, if not blind, then very near-sighted, and she couldn't say just why. It wasn't as though she believed his theories about aliens or crop circles or secret shadowy government conspiracies out to get them and their little dog, too. No, she was too smart for that. There was just something else about him, something that demanded complete faith and devotion, something intangible, and as much as she was reluctant to follow anything out of nothing but faith and trust, she could trust him.

Lately, though, their situation had changed. Mulder was hiding in some undisclosed location to even her, and this search, this quest, had gone on for so long she didn't know if she could take it anymore. She had next to no one in the FBI she could count on. Even Skinner wasn't always reliable.

She sometimes wondered if she had just thrown away any chance she had by joining this unit and staying on it for so long. But now it was too late to make any changes. She had made her decision years ago, and now she just had to choke down her tears when they rose, even if that meant she would lose everything.
