Lissa POV
The children stare at me with their cold eyes. I scream hoping someone can hear me.
I wake up in a cold sweat screaming and crying. In my terror, I twisted the sheets; I try to untangle my legs from the blankets. I hear Christrian stir beside me.
"Liss," Christrian whispers as he turns onto his other side to look at me.
Christrian POV
I hear her all too familiar screams come into my subconscious. This is the fourth time she's woken up in the middle of the night this week. I wake up to her crying about healing and Moroi children.
"Liss," I whisper. I sit up and look into her green eyes. They're brimming with tears. I wipe away the ones already on her cheeks. She catches my hand, and holds it against her face. "What happened?"
"Oh Christrian, it was horrible." Lissa leans into me, and sobs into my chest. I stroke her hair waiting for her to calm down. "There were Moroi and dhampir children kidnapped by Strigoi. Guardians rescued them, but they were all injured. I tried to heal them, but they all died." Another sob racks her body, and she stops talking. Her whole body shakes with fear.
It all clicks together. Spirit. The spirit is trying to take over her mind. I pull her into my lap and rub her back with one hand, and stroke her hair with the other. "It's not real. It's okay. Calm down." I continue to whisper soothing things into her blonde curls. Lissa starts to breathe normally.
"Christrian," she sniffles. "What if the spirit gets to be too much? What if I go crazy like Sonya or Anna." I knew all the stories of other spirit users scared her more than anthing else. She looks up at me expetantly as if I'll have an answer to the tough question.
"That won't happen to you, Lissa." I reassure her. "You have me, Rose, Dimitri, Jill, Adrian, and so many others that love you with all their hearts. We'll make sure that you win the battle against spirit. I'm going to get you something to drink"
I stroll into the kitchen and heat up a glass of warm milk. I walk back to find Lissa turned on the lamp next to her side of the bed. I sit on the right side of the bed and hand Lissa the milk. "Feel better?" I ask. She nods her head and places the empty glass on the nightstand. I push her back onto the bed and lie down beside her.
LPOV
Christrian pushes me back against the bed, and my head hits the pillow. He lies on his back besides me, but then changes his mind and turns onto his side. I place my lips on his, and he kisses me back. The kiss becomes deeper when he pulls back.
"Lissa, you're just trying to distract yourself," Christrian playfully scolds me. "Not that I don't mind being a distaction." I giggle and peck him on the lips. He wraps his arms around me, and I snuggle into him.
"Thank you," I whisper.
"For what?" He asks.
"For helping me fight the spirit. I don't want to go insane, or forget who you are. I love you with all my heart." I tell him.
"I do it because I love you. You won't go crazy, and if you forget who I am, I will tell you everyday for the rest of our lives. You own my heart, and nothing will ever change that." I smile, and kiss him. This time I am the one who pulls back.
"Turn over," Christrian tells me. I obey and he fits my back into his chest. As I drift off, he whispers, "I love you." I am too far gone to respond. I fall asleep and sleep the best I have in weeks.
