A/N: The 'collected works of filk' is an anthology of songs adapted for the Potterverse. These are *not* song-fics.
Preface: "Travelin' Auror" is based upon the song "Travelin' Soldier" by the Dixie Chicks. I've adapted it into a Ginny/Neville song. It's set just after Harry's year have left Hogwarts. In this song Ginny has a weekend job at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade bacause she needs to job to afford her school books. Neville has just became an Auror and the scene is set....
"Travelin' Auror"
"Two days past eighteen
He was waiting for the train in his Ministry greens
Sat down in booth in a pub that's there
Gave his order to a girl with bright red hair
He's a little shy so she give him a smile
And he said 'Would mind sitting down for a while
And taking to me; I'm feeling a little low'
She said 'I'm off in an hour And I know where we can go'
So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said 'I bet you've got a boyfriend but I don't care
I've got no one to send a letter too
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?'
I... cried.
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waiting for the love of a travelin' Auror.
Our love will never end
Waiting for the Auror to come back again
Never more to be alone
When the letter says
The Auror's coming home
So the letters came from a training camp
In muggle London then Azkaban
And he told her of his heart, it might be love
And all of the things he was so scared of
He said 'When it's getting kinda rough over here
I think of that day sitting down on the pier
And I close my eyes.
And see you pretty smile.
Don't worry but I won't be able to write for a while'
I... cried.
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waiting for the love of a travelin' Auror
Our love will never end
Waiting for the Auror to come back again
Never more to be alone
When the letter says
The Auror's coming home
One Saturday night at a Qudditch game
The rules been read and the anthem sang
And the man said 'folks would you bow your heads
for a list of local Aurors dead.'
Crying all alone, under the stands
Was a quidditch player from the Gryffindor band
For one name read
And nobody really cared
But a pretty little girl
With bright red hair.
I... cried.
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waiting for the love of a travelin' Auror
Our love will never end
Waiting for the Auror to come back again
Never more to be alone
When the letter says
The Auror's coming
I... cried.
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waiting for the love of a travelin' Auror
Our love will never end
Waiting for the Auror to come back again
Never more to be alone
When the letter says
The Auror's coming home. "
A/N: The 'pier' in the song is an invention of mine - it jut's out into the Hogwarts lake from the Hogsmeade end.
