Introduction
I love you, don't go. Please don't go. I love you." His voice was no more than a whisper. Then finally, pathetically, limply: I love you. Escaped his lips as he fell to his knees.
But I don't love you.
The voice was all too alien to him; full up of deceit and spite and not the same loving tone that he was used to.
He was vaguely aware of the door shutting softly behind him, and a few papers blowing off his desk as she left. The room was a blur of tears, his eyes burnt, his throat was dry, and a sudden fatigue overcame him.
He hung his head, and his warm tears began to drip down upon the cold marble floor. He sank down to join them in their abandoned silence.
Once again, he tried to speak. I love you. But the sounds that came out were not words, and to anybody listening would sound like a harsh, cracked, growling noise. But they held enough significance to him as he spoke to the empty, perfumed air around him.
This wasn't him, he didn't cry. Not since back then but after all that had been the same hadn't it? The one person the one person who he could love, and trust, and be loved and trusted by in return was gone.
The sky thundered around him, the rain poured down, and the cold tore into him.
Where are you? He called into the tempest. I need you!!
In reply, thunder rolled around him, laughing at him, mocking him. He had never felt so alone, and in that moment the water rolling down his face was more than just rain.
What are you doing out here? A familiar voice cooed. Although the woman had led him inside, he would always hold some of that night's storm within him.
Foolish of him to think that somebody could care enough to stay around long enough to love him. Foolish of him to let himself love. Foolish of him to trust, and be under the delusion that he was trusted.
He stood up, leaving his misery behind, pushed open the balcony doors that led out into the open night and breathed it in. He'd never felt so alive, never felt so needless and had certainly never felt this powerful. This is what it was like to be dark and he wanted more.
The storm reflected in his ice blue eyes, yet the sea and sky were calm.
