Winter Sleep
By SMYGO4EVA

White paints all
Snow falls from the sky
The midnight blue
People sleeping in warmth
Earth becomes pure
Pure as snow
The winter becomes the Earth
Hazel eyes gaze in awe
Purple orbs stare in wonder
It was near dark
When snowflakes fell
Onto the ground
Making their mark
Gifts from above
From the heavenly skies
From the great beyond
Untainted
Pure
Absolute
Colored eyes gaze at the falling clouds
The moon is obscured
An auburn-haired girl looks outside
A young boy yearns for something more
Outside
Where it is bitterly cold
Where seasons greeting are present
The time of light
Holy holiday celebrated
Peace and purity
The winter as a backdrop
A perfect setting for such an occasion
A time of peace amidst chaos
Amidst war and uncertainty
A forest remains untouched
The snow is pure once more
Gold in our eyes
Such beauty is radiant in the moonlight
Dreams are wished by the stars
Prayers are answered
Or brought to ruin
Ruin, ruin
Or dreams can come true
Names are known
Fates are decided
She walks onto the snow
A witness to the winter wonderland
The sun sinking
Nocturne rising
He emerges from shelter
A winter wonderland it is
Almost an illusion
Something so beautiful
Yet never everlasting
As we once were
She sees the boy
The boy sees the girl
Her name is Serenity
His name is Yugi
Innocent
Certainly loved
Pure
Resilient
Bittersweet melodies
Adorn the moonlit sky
As a tree in every home
They decide to walk up
To each other
She smiles
He smiles
They hold hands
They walk in the frost
Together
What was once lively
Asleep
As they shall be
In winter sleep

(A/N: While typing this poem, I listened to the song "Walking in the Air" by Peter Auty. The song was featured in the short film, "The Snowman". If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. I thought the song perfectly conveys that feeling of nostalgia and bittersweet memories from childhood, and I tried to express that in the poem. Happy Holidays and Best wishes for the New Year!)
