SOOO I've been wanting to post this for a while now, enjoy.
Prologue
The camp was too quiet for Hawk Frost's liking. The only living soul in the snow-drowned clearing was Burnt Frost, on night guard. Everyone else was tucked away in their nests, seeking shelter from the cold of the mountains.
The rogue leader sat outside his den, his paw rolling a ball of ice and moss back and forth on the ground. He began to notice that the more he rolled the ball in the snow, the bigger it got.
Suddenly a scream pierced the air, but the most frightening part was that it was coming from the cave. His cave.
Petal Frost! Hawk Frost flipped around and dashed back into the tunnel. Yowls echoed around the small walls, and soon enough it opened up into a large cavern, a small hole in the roof shining light down like a pillar.
Hawk Frost raced to his nest, where his mate was clawing at the moss that lined it. Her eyes were squeezed tight, her mouth drawn back to reveal sharp teeth.
"What is it?" The tom circled the she-cat, panic beginning to rise within his chest.
"Stand back!" Fern Frost came dashing into the den, various herbs clamped in her jaws. The white she-cat had become the unofficial medicine cat of the Mountain Hawks.
What's happening? Hawk Frost thought he would choke on his questions. Is she going to be okay?
"Hawk Frost."
The rogue spun around, only to be greeted by a silvery cat, his blue eyes reflecting the moonlight like two brilliant pools. Yet, this was a cat Hawk Frost did not want to see.
"Ripplestar." He hissed under his breath. "What are you doing here?"
"I have a peace offering."
Petal Frost's screams intensified, making the rogue leader flinch at the pain in them. Ripplestar didn't seem shaken, for he stood firmly on the ground like a tree.
"I don't have time for you."
"We can do this the easy way," Ripplestar ignored the comment, "or the hard way, where SunClan drives you out of the mountains for good." There was a long pause.
"What have we ever done to you?" Hawk Frost had to yell to be heard, drawing back his lips in a snarl. "Your Clan barges into our camp, acting like you own the place. But this is my group, my cats!"
Ripplestar's claws made scraping sounds on the stone beneath them. "Fine. We'll make it hard."
At those five words, Hawk Frost leaped at the SunClan leader, rage giving him new energy. He tore at every place he could, lashing out without knowing what he was lashing out at.
Suddenly, pale ginger joined the blur of gray and black fur, thich with Fern Frost's scent. The she-cat thrust her way between the two toms. "Is this really the first impression you want your kits to have of you?" She fixed her green gaze on Hawk Frost's orange.
K-kits?
Ripplestar retreated, thick, crimson blood oozing from his eye. Hawk Frost smiled, realizing that he had half-blinded the warrior.
"Hawk Frost!" Petal Frost was calling for her mate, as if she wanted him to come and never leave, as if she wanted to lay next to him like they were now for countless moons.
Ripplestar was a statue through all of it. While the newly-parents marveled at their two sons, and while they licked fur backwards to warm the kits up.
One kit was completely white, with black ears. The other was black, but when he raised his head to let out a mew, a gray muzzle became visible. Petal Frost reached down to lick the mewling kit, showering it with purrs.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Hawk Frost asked the question as soon as it popped into his mind.
"I wanted you to be surprised." The white she-cat answered. "And besides, you wouldn't have let me go on any patrols."
"You didn't tell me." The black tom mumbled, his gaze fixed on the white tomkit. "You kept secrets from me. How?"
He didn't wait for an answer. As the anger and hurt crashed over him like a wave, he grabbed the black kit by the scruff and threw it as hard as he could at the wall. Then he went for the mother.
This time, Ripplestar joined in pulling him back as the rogue leader bit deep into the she-cat's back leg. She yowled in pain and moved to protect her kit.
Then everything went black.
