Then, Now, and Forever

I thought about Helen walking the halls of the Sanctuary in the far future.

Helen walked down the halls of her Sanctuary towards the Sanctuary mermaid's old enclosure. 'Sally' Helen smiled at the memory of the nick-name Will and Henry had given her oh so long ago, as she walked along memories flooded back to her the first time Will walked in here, the time were Ashley and Henry were running a muck annoying the abnormals in these cells, then to Bigfoot and Kate. Hey right now she was close to missing Nikola. She walked passed Two-faced man's old room, and into Henry's old lab. For a moment she thought she saw him sitting in his chair in front of the monitors like he always did. Then she realized it was his great, great, great, great (well you get the point) grandson. He turned as he heard her enter.

"Hey Doc. why are you up so late?" He asked in a way that reminded Helen of Henry and Will.

"I couldn't sleep Jimmy." She said. He looked just like Henry and acted like a mixture of Henry and Will, she pulled her blanket closer as a chill went through her. In the middle of the night the Sanctuary was rather cold and her silk nightgown did not keep her very warm.

"Hey" Jimmy said softly as he stood and put one of his hands on her shoulder. She closed her eyes fighting back tears that wanted so desperately to run down her face. She missed every one she knew when she was only 157 or so. She missed Will, Ashley, Henry, Bigfoot, Kate, John, James, and so on. All their lives a brief moment compared to hers. Before she could protest Jimmy had pulled into a hug, wrapping her in his arms. Then she realized she had started crying. She held him back and buried her face in his neck. He put a hand in her hair which was now back to its original blonde color. Helen had no idea what time it was or how long she cried but she was glad that Jimmy just held her. Her tears finally slowed and she leaned back. He offered her a reassuring smile, his hands on her shoulders. His shoulder was wet with her tears.

"You okay now Doc.?" Jimmy asked quietly. He looked her in the eye. Helen just nodded, not trusting her voice. Jimmy turned and grabbed his jacket then turned back to Helen.

"Come on Doc. lets go get some tea." He said putting on the jacket" I've been working on my special brew to get close to what you grew up with." He said. He smiled put his arm around her shoulders and led her off to go get some tea. "Now it's not perfect but its better then when I was ten." He held her tight.

"Thank you, Jimmy." Helen whispered and rested her head on his shoulder. It was time to get on with her horribly long life. The people in her past may be gone from this earth but no matter how long she lived they will always be with her in her heart and now it was time to make new friends and meet new people and live again.
