Disclaimer: Don't own Rookie Blue. This makes me sad.

This is set kind of after the season one finale takedown, after Gail goes with Chris to the hospital. I changed some things, and it's not the most innovative scene ever, but I liked it and in my opinion there aren't enough Gail and Chris fics anyway so I hope you do too. Depending on what you guys think I might expand it to some stuff between the seasons. or at least make it longer.

Gail sat, curled up in a chair in a hospital waiting room trying to hold back her tears. Chris was still in surgery and the doctors wouldn't tell her anything uniform or not. At first they said it should be relatively simple, but it had been two hours and she had heard nothing since reporting to the others that the doctors said he would be fine. She had heard nothing since then except that he was still in surgery, and she had no idea what that meant. Was it more serious than they first thought? Had he lost too much blood? "I should have done more for him. Oh god there had to have been something I could have done. I shouldn't have left him in the first place." She lost track of how much time passed, it felt like days, before a doctor appeared. By now the waiting room was almost empty, and everyone lost interest as soon as they realized that the news, whether good or bad, wasn't for them.

"Officer, your partner is alive. He's going to have a few weeks to recover, but he is alive and he is going to stay that way, I want to be clear about that. Now he…." Gail was pretty sure the doctor was still talking, but she didn't really hear anything. She was stuck in a mix of the wildest emotions of her entire life, a flood of relief and pure joy that he would live tinged with something else she didn't quite recognize.

"When can I see him?" she could tell by the look on the doctor's face that she had cut him off mid-sentence, but she wasn't going to start caring about stuff like that now. Especially not when this doctor was keeping her from the man she… the thought trailed off, and Gail briefly wondered where it was going. "The man I … what?" Gail pushed the thoughts away in time to focus on the doctor's response. Then Gail became acutely aware of how long it had been since she had last slept, and how the room was vaguely pinning.

"You can see him in a few hours, but he won't be awake even then. I'd recommend you go home office…"

"Not happening. I'm staying until he wakes up and you won't stop me."

"Easy officer." The doctor's eyes drifted down to her waist, then back up to meet her gaze. It was only then that Gail realized that her hand had drifted to rest on her gun. She didn't withdraw it. "He'll be out of post-op shortly. An orderly will take you to his room when that happens." The doctor beat a hasty retreat, and Gail groggily returned to her seat. She fought her sudden exhaustion until the orderly arrived and began leading her through the hospital. Eventually they arrived at room 206, which had only one occupant.

"Chris!" she quickly crossed the remaining difference between herself and him lying prone and unconscious in his bed. She crossed to his left side to avoid the wound and held his hand in her own. Suddenly remembering she turned to the orderly, but she was already leaving to give them privacy. This was good, because those tears returned in full force over his body. "Chris." She repeated weakly, thinking how close she had come to taking him to a coroner instead of a surgeon. She stoked his hand with her own, and knelt by his side to rest her head on his chest. She felt his heartbeat, strong and true as ever, and she let it relax her to sleep.

So guys tell me what you think! If its any good I'll probably expand it to more stuff from between the seasons or if not ill just leave it as a oneshot. Either way please review!
