Aneko: Hm, well hello there

Aneko: Hm, well hello there. Here goes my next attempt at Furuba! Hope you enjoy.

Disclaimer: I do not own Fruits Basket. If I did, it most likely would have been a shorter series.

Room of the Cat

The darkness was unbearable, driving you slowly insane as you forgot what the sun looked like. It was impenetrable, and you could wave your hand in front of your face and not see it. You couldn't see any of the room you lived in; not that it mattered. A light would only reveal four bare walls, a floor, and a ceiling.

Occasionally a maid would come bringing food, just enough to keep you alive. At one point, when you would have tried escaping when she brought it, several male family members would accompany her to the room, to keep it from happening. Now, though, you were too weak to even try. When they gave you the food, they left the sliding door open just enough that you could see what you were doing, because it disgusted Akito even more it you spilled on yourself.

When you finished, the maid, who had been standing outside the door, would come and take the tray, shutting the door again, so that your brief respite from total darkness was taken away, making the darkness even more unbearable.

The only other possible source of light was a window, set mockingly high in the wall, so that when you wanted light, the top of your head barely reach the bottom ledge, even when standing up. The window barely let any light in anyways, through the bars over it, that made the room seem even more like a cage than a room.

The worst part of all, though, was the visits from Akito. Every day, without fail, he would show up at the door with a superior smile on his face, reminding you again and again that you had been unable to beat Yuki; unable to stay with Tohru.

Even when he was sick Akito would come, getting Hatori or Shigure to carry him, so that he could whisper to you all the things you didn't want to hear…

Kyo sat up with a jerk, rubbing his sweating face with a trembling hand. He was lying on the floor, with books from school strewn about him.

He looked out the window and noticed that while it was still the middle of the afternoon, a light rain was falling.

Kyo snorted, frowning. "Rain."

Unable to sleep again, Kyo got up, walking downstairs.

He walked into the kitchen, intending to get something to eat, and saw Tohru standing in front of the stove.

"What are you doing?"

"Tohru turned, surprised , then smiled. "Oh, Kyo-kun. I'm making soup! Would you like some?"

"Sure…" Kyo sat at the table. "…but why are you making it now? It's the middle of the afternoon."

"Shigure-san said he needed some to stimulate his creative thought." Tohru came and sat down too.

Kyo's eyebrow twitched. Creative thought, yeah right. He just wants food.

"Kyo-kun, are you alright?"

"Huh?" Kyo looked at Tohru. She was looking at him in concern.

"You look pale."

"I'm fine." Kyo shrugged. "Don't worry about it." There was no way he would ever be able to tell her about his bleak future-if it could be called even that. She would only worry.

"Oh. Okay." Tohru said, but she didn't look convinced.

"Hey. Shouldn't you be checking on the soup?" Kyo raised an eyebrow, pointing to Tohru.

"AH! Oh my gosh, the soup!" Tohru jumped up, running back over to the stove.

Shaking his head, Kyo followed her in, hearing her say, "Thank goodness it's okay!"

I can't change it now; but until I'm forced to leave you I want to be near you for as long as I can.

Aneko: Sorry it's kinda depressing. (he was having a dream in the first part, if you can't tell)
