She Didnt Have Time

A/N: J.E. owns the characters, Terri Clark owns the song. Just something I had to get out of my system.
"I'll see you later cupcake, take care of yourself and her," He said from the edge of our porch, You're better off without me I'm not what you need. I watched as he walked away and started his piece of shit cop car. I couldn't help but think a stranger would show more compassion than that.
I know you wonder what the hell I'm going to do. Well, Stephanie Plum Morelli was pulling on her big girl panties and putting her wonder woman cape away.
she got a sitter, and she got a job
'cause she had a promise to keep
her day was a factory and evening survival
at night was exhaustion and sleep
sometimes she felt life was passing her by
and watching was all she could do.
That's right, I succumbed and got a job at the hygiene plant in town and started taking care of my daughter. I didnt have time for anything else. Lula and Connie called a couple of times to tell me I had to get out of the house but they didn't get it. Mary Lou quit calling the day he left. I had officially left the burg, she couldn't afford to be stigmatized for that, and I didnt have time.
not time where would she find the time
to trust a man again
not time for that flat tire
a crowded parking lot.
not time but yes to have coffee with the man
who got her tired fixed
It was just my luck. Carly had ballet tonight. I thought I had escaped this crap. Then I felt a shiver run through my body. I hadn't felt anything like it in years.
"Babe," It was a whisper with a lot of question in it. I slowly turned around. I couldn't help but suck my breath in. I had forgot how handsome he was.
"Does she have your eyes?" He asked quietly. I just nodded at him. He picked me up and moved me so he could change my tire.
"I have to go, Carly has dance," I said reluctantly. He nodded at me. I climbed slowly into my car thinking that I wanted to stay, but I didnt have time. I went home and grabbed my daughter heading into our nightly routine. While she was dancing my phone began to vibrate.
"Hello?"
"Babe, can I bring Pinos and doughnuts tonight? We should catch up." Ranger sounded almost hopeful.
"That would be nice," I said grinning like an idiot.
I had Carly tucked into bed and my things put away. I was glad it was Friday. I had a little more time. When the soft knock came an hour later I opened it with a soft smile on my face.
"Babe," he said with that almost smile.
"Ranger."
they sat and talked for hours
giving destiny it's power
she could've been afraid
to fall in love that night
but she didn't have time
