Sam's late night 'what the hell are you still doing in that lab' phone call created a large smile on her face. It was nice to know that even from the other side of the country Jack cared enough to keep up with her. Of course, he was right about her need to get some sleep. The fact that he had called her as he was getting up for work meant, even with the time zone difference, it was now early morning not late night and she needed sleep.
Sam went down the hall to check on Daniel before making her way to bed. They both tended to fall into the same bad sleep habits and Jack had asked her to make sure he was sleeping also. As Sam got close to Daniel's office she heard voices. Her steps slowed as she listened closely in an attempt to identify the voice answering Daniel. It was Cameron. That meant most of the team was restless this evening, which wasn't too surprising since they'd all just returned from a planet that was experiencing mid-afternoon right now. Just before Sam turned the corner onto Daniel's office the conversation brought her to a halt.
"Oh, come on, Daniel. You're telling me in all this time you haven't once checked her out."
"She doesn't interest me."
"How can any full blooded American male ignore those curves? Don't forget how powerful she is. And that color blue. Have you ever seen such a unique color?"
"I can't deny she's a real specimen but I have no particular interest in her. It helps knowing Jack would kill me if I so much as laid a finger on her."
"I'd be willing to risk his wrath for one night with her. It'd be a memorable ride. I'd never forget the feel of wrapping my legs around her. I don't think I've ever had that much power under me before."
"Keep dreaming. Jack will never let you near her."
"I'll take good care of her."
"He won't even entertain the notion."
"Maybe there's something I can trade him for one night with her."
"A swap? You're going to suggest a swap? You are crazy. It's one thing to ask to borrow her but to insult her by acting like there is something else of equal quality is going down the wrong road."
"Good point."
"You need to talk to Sam. Jack might say yes if she was on your side."
"It shouldn't be too hard to convince her. She'd probably enjoy it as much as I would."
That was it for Sam. She rounded the corner into Daniel's office with her hands on her hips. "I can't believe the two of you are even discussing this. It's absurd! There's no way I would ever agree and it never should have even been a question. I'm especially disappointed in you Daniel. We've been friends for so long and you should know I'd never agree."
Daniel and Cameron exchanged puzzled looks. Cameron was the first to reply.
"I'm sorry Sam. I just assumed you'd be as interested as me."
Daniel shot Cameron an 'I told you so' look before addressing Sam. "I told him this wouldn't go over well with Jack but I didn't expect you to get this upset. Sorry."
"You didn't expect me to get this upset! Are you kidding me?"
Daniel grimaced and said, "Sorry Sam, but…I mean…it is just a motorcycle."
As Cameron flinched he said, "Don't call her just a motorcycle."
Sam looked confused, "Motorcycle?"
Daniel nodded his head, "Yeah, the one Jack's been keeping at my place because you didn't have enough room."
"Oh, right…his motorcycle…of course…makes sense."
Daniel cocked his head to the right and squinted his eyes. "What did you think we were talking about?"
"It's late. We all need to get some sleep. I'll meet you both for breakfast around nine and you can explain it all to me then."
"Sam, what did you think we were discussing?" Daniel's voiced followed Sam as she left the office and headed to bed. Her overactive imagination was a clear sign she needed some sleep.
