"We're losing her!" a voice cut through the chaos in the labor room. Lightning crashed and a scream echoed down the hall, dissolving in to quiet pants and soft cries of agony as the new mothers life faded from her. The nurse placed a small body in the dying woman's arms, cooing soothing things to the woman. The new mother smiled softly at her beautiful baby boy and her eyes slid closed as the childs opened for the first time. Confused blue eyes met loving green ones and the woman's last breath was answered by the babes first cry. Whisked away from it's mother, the baby's crying increased in volume, not silencing even as he was placed in his fathers. The father gave the child back seconds after he was given the baby.
Grief stricken the father gave the doctor the babes name before collapsing into one of the hard plastic hospital chairs. He would never be the same kind man as he had been before the death of his wife, and the child would suffer for it. The innocent babe, who's name was the request of a dead woman, wouldn't know love until years later.
