"Hey, Dovepaw! Are you up for some battle training?" Lionblaze poked his head into the apprentice den.
"Yeah Lionblaze. Hey, are you okay? I saw you trip over a boulder twice your size!" Dovepaw purred with a sympathetic tone.
"Uh yeah, I'm fine. How did you know?" Lionblaze meowed surprised.
"A cat from across the forest could hear you yowling." Dovepaw teased, amused.
Lionblaze playfully cuffed her around ears.
"Hey! Are you going to sit around gossiping all day? There's work to be done and apprentices to be trained!" Brambleclaw growled.
Ever since Brambleclaw became deputy he was a big pain in the tail. He liked the old Brambleclaw better, when Lionblaze thought Brambleclaw was his father. Jayfeather, the clan medicine cat, Hollyleaf, their dead littermate, and Lionblaze, thought that Squirrelflight, a warrior, and Brambleclaw, the clan deputy, were their parents. But it turned out that Leafpool, the former medicine cat, and Crowfeather, a Windclan warrior, were their parents. Squirrelflight and Leafpool lied to everyone. They thought it was best for everyone. But that lie actually caused problems.
Hollyleaf had announced the truth to everyone at the Gathering and was ashamed of herself. She found an old tunnel and went in it which collapsed and she died. Leafpool was forced to give up her place as a medicine cat because she broke the medicine cat law: medicine cats must not have kits because they'll pay too much attention to the kit and not to the clan. The whole clan must be its kit. Leafpool became a warrior instead but could not do anything. She would come back from hunting patrols empty-pawed. A blind kit could see that Leafpool was meant to be a medicine cat.
"Yes Brambleclaw. I was actually just about to take Dovepaw out for battle training." Lionblaze tried not to sound impatient.
"Good. I'm going to be watching your training session. See how you're getting on." Brambleclaw mewed.
"Uh, sure. We'll be right there, we just need to talk to Jayfeather first really quick." Lionblaze meowed. He pulled Dovepaw behind on of the dens.
"How really did you know I fell?" Lionblaze's voice full of concern.
"Well, I heard and saw you fall while you were patrolling the Windclan border. Why? Is there something wrong with me? I thought that any cat could do that." Lionblaze could tell she was puzzled.
"Um, no. There's nothing wrong with you. I just need to go take you to Jayfeather really quick." Lionblaze explained.
"Like I said, am I sick? Is there something wrong with me?" Dovepaw repeated.
"What? I can't pay a visit to my own brother without being questioned? Young cats these days," Lionblaze muttered the last part.
So, they went to see Jayfeather.
"Jayfeather! I think she's the One," Lionblaze said once they had his attention.
"What? She can't be! Don't you realize that she's only an apprentice? The One has to be a warrior not a useless old apprentice who's just left the nursery! Stop wasting my time and come back when you find the real One!" Jayfeather looked at Lionblaze with his sightless eyes.
Lionblaze and Dovepaw walked away.
"What was that all about?" Dovepaw mewed still shaken by the tone of Jayfeather's voice.
"Nothing!" then he just felt bad for yelling at his apprentice for no reason at all, "Sorry, I'm just a little mad at Jayeather. Let's go to training. We'll try again later," Lionblaze meowed with his head hung low.
