POV: Kurama's

"You will remember nothing of this night."

Her eyes glazed, as always. She stared straight into my own eyes, mouth still open in horrified curiosity. My blood dripped rhythmically into a puddle, several wounds having been opened in a struggle with her. She had seen it. Again.

"When you wake up tomorrow, you will know that I have been home this entire time. You will come in to find me awake, as usual, and nothing will be out of the ordinary."

Her hands were stained from the struggle. She had caught me. She had grabbed me, tried to get me to confess my whereabouts, why I was hurt, who I was with. Things I wasn't willing to tell her for both our sakes. Explaining things like this to her would lead to her thinking me to be insane. Or perhaps she would fall into her own madness. I never wanted to find out.

"Mother, do you understand?"

"Everything is fine," she mumbled, monotonous, "All is normal."

I sighed, "Very good."

I pulled away, not breaking my gaze. I hated the look she always gave me; terrified at seeing her only son stumble through the front door half dead. This alone was taking enough out of me; I would need more sleep tomorrow. "Are you ready for bed, mother?" Snap.

And, just like that, the light came into her eyes. My mother saw me as a normal child, home from a camping trip with his friends. My absense had been explained by my own forgery in school. Everyone thought I was normal. Just as I wanted it.

"Yes Suichi," she smiled, touched my arm without feeling the blood seeping through the fabric, "But why don't we finish our tea first?"

I kissed her cheek, "Sounds lovely"
