Tonight and the Rest of My Life
A shameless bit of one-shot fluff between the Doctor and Rose. Inspired by the Nina Gordon song of the same name.
The Doctor wanted this for so long. Rose wanted it, too. But they really needed it tonight. A Dalek invasion was nearly the end of them both, and it left them even more shaken than usual.
Rose seemed more shaken than usual for some reason. They had fought those things off before so he was unsure as to why she felt that way.
"It reminds me that I'm that much close to losing you. You're worth fighting for, with every ounce of energy I have, and I'll be damned if I ever lose you," she told him with tears in her eyes.
The Doctor nodded as he hugged her. "I know I feel the same way. I'm not just fighting for the universe now, I'm fighting for you. You're worth every ounce of energy I use, and if I ever lose you, it would be the end of me," he confessed before kissing her.
"Come with me," the Doctor whispered to her as he took her hand. He led Rose to his bedroom and handed her an oversized T-shirt. He turned his back to give her some privacy while he put on his pajamas. The Time Lord crawled under the covers and then lifted the blanket to invite her underneath. Rose immediately accepted, and snuggled up to him, using his chest as a pillow.
"I've wanted this for so long," Rose admitted to him.
"So have I", the Doctor replied, holding her close and kissing her forehead. He rubbed her back and tucked her head under his chin before he finally said something else he finally wanted to say for so long.
"I love you," he whispered to her.
"I love you, too," she whispered softly. Their hearts filled with joy at those blessed words, and their three heartbeats lulled them to sleep for the first time in each other's arms, hopefully for the rest of their lives.
