The Complicated Mechanics of Being
Everything is wild and spinning. The earth moves faster than his heart can beat.
Bright lights, pressure building in his chest. His fingers, his face, numb; his lungs on fire. Hears the sizzle, smells the burnt flesh that clings to his fingers- and it never does come off.
Blind with panic, he rips the IV catheter from his hand. Struggles like a caged animal at the hands that pull him down while the frantic beeping and whirring, the complicated mechanics of being human, screech in his mind.
"It's okay, Dean!"
At Sam's voice, he stills.
"You're okay."
And he is.
